It's almost that time!!! The 2015 summer reading library show is almost here! I have started putting down a few ideas thoughts and routines for my show and would like to help others and hear what you guys are thinking. As you know we are talking about "Every hero has a story" so my thought for my show is going to be, the kids at the show are going to be there heroes. The children are all going to be able to accomplish amazing feats. Things they didn't think they can do they will accomplish. One example I will be talking about superman (flight) I have a superman kids book I will talk about and the kids will help me with the floating table. The other thought I have is talking about local heroes. I will be talking about fireman and police officers. I will also be incorporating a girl to become a princes with of course Princess in a pickle.
Hope this helps some get motivated in your show. What do you guys have planned???? Thanks Joe |

Bookings started coming in last week.
My program is called The Hero in You. I share about my love of Libraries & Graphic Novels. Puppet (read vent) routines on Captain America to Captain Underpants, and from Wonder Woman to Walter the Farting Dog. I am also writing songs that will have easily memorized chorus sections for the kids to sing. Harris reader & righter

Glad to hear your booking the shows! I like your incorporation with the vent. I'm playing around with my Vern and shaggy puppet to see how they will work as well. |

My library system went to an "Educational" theme where every program had to have a hands-on learning element in it. Consequently I didn't make the cut last year. The same requirements apply this year so thinking I wouldn't get in I pitched a show based on a popular comic book series. Even though this comic series doesn't really have costumed Super Heroes in it. I thought Heroes and comic books sort of went hand in hand. The series also has the advantage of having been novelized. So I have a books series to tie the show into as well. Something librarians really like.
Much to my surprise they picked up my program. So now I'm busily building props for this new show. I'll have to see if I can get copies of the Comics and Books to sell at the end of the show. Or at least colouring sheets of some of the characters to give away with my contact info on it.

Wiz Kid Qua-Fiki started working his Super Hero Magic into library shows in 2009, before they even came up with the theme. He just made the Super Hero Magic match whatever theme the library was pushing that year. Now that they have finally come up with a theme where the Super Hero is featured, he can go back and do every one of his Super Hero tricks and maybe get that darned book finished in time to be featured as an author, as well. The effects he finished for the e-Book collection included: The Invisible Man Strikes Again!, Tissue Tear Super Hero Suit, Hunt for a Super Villain, Super Hero Rope Routine, Wonder Dog, Super Hero Napkin Tricks, and X-Ray Vision.

The chapters listed above are already released. There are just 3 more needed to complete the collection and when that will happen is anyone's guess now that he is working at a regular job. I will keep nagging him to finish it, though.

Another group of heroes I will use are people that make us laugh.
Comics, Clowns and Cousins. Here's Clarence, my roller skating clown made by Joey Emory. https://www.facebook.com/drlaugh4u/media......3&type=3 and yet another group...people that demonstrate ability to escape (literally and figuratively and those that help us. From Batman and a rope tie, to Houdini and a strait jacket. I might share about my work with kids on habits, loss and revenge. My shows are a mix of emotions not just laughter all the way through. "Nigel" and I went super hero shopping.
He had his first gig, last night, in his long sleeve Spider-man Shirt and Zippered Spider Vest. I thought of using it on Zelda ,an Axtell's Chimp. She could become. a spider monkey. Side note, I've been watching Kid President videos. In one he warns - if you get bit by a radioactive spider don't fight crime- GO SEE A DOCTOR.
