Filmed live at Barefoot Landing sometime in last August 2015. Very good display of what I do for a living. Smile

I love watching busking shows <3 Thanks! BTW I don't like that idea when Coke is on the table. I think it shouldn't be there.

I'm amused anyone would care where my Coke is. I could easily lecture for 20 minutes on the significance of that Coke, and why it is exactly where it should be.

I'm curious ... why do you think it should not be there??

I don't know, maybe you are right and that Coke should be there, we can PM about it, but I personally feel I prefer when I see only important things on the table. But I really want to know why you think that Coke should be there! Smile

Cheers!

Because I work in 100 plus degree heat indexes on a regular basis. I usually freeze them overnight and drink them as they thaw. Not having cold liquid would put me at risk of heat stroke.

It has to be somewhere, either on the table or on the ground ... and I don't drink from the ground, that is where dogs drink. It is one thing to see me take a drink of cola, it is another thing to see me bend over and pick something up off the ground ... people walking by may notice and think I dropped something (lower value).

I am a human being, my drink belongs on the table ... the same place the judges on American Idol put their Cokes. The majority of my audience is overweight and when they see my coke they most likely wish they had one. Especially on a hot day ... so in a sense, it is "bait". Anyone that has worked a flea market style booth knows that as soon as you put lunch on the counter, customers start to show up. It is a psychological thing - human instinct is to always seek out food and water and just having it there attracts attention.

I also use it to conceal items - like if I have an object palmed in my left hand, I will pick the coke up with my left hand ... the laymen mindset is that palming is to make your hand look empty, if you are holding an object you can't be palming anything. There are times when I'll be palming something and hold it right up in front of them and make a toast. (so it is also a prop at times).

The timing of when I drink is important as well ... the coke bottle is next to the tip jar, so when I pickup the coke bottle I am also calling attention to the tip jar ... another psychological trick ... a little grease to get the mental wheels moving the direction I want them to go.

All that is just off the top of my head ... I could go on ... like how I'm a germaphobe and having something in my hand gives me an excuse to not shake hands. There are just countless number of reasons that Coke is exactly where it belongs.

But I do get a lot of magicians say it shouldn't be there ... you are no where near the first to tell me this. Of course ... none of them have ever given me any good reasons it should not be there, but I do keep asking.

JoeJoe is right, lots of talking+heat=cold drinks, and I usually set up within sight of a rest room Smile

I actually try not to drink much, as I find bathroom breaks are unprofitable. In fact ... if you watch the video real close, you will notice I pickup the soda, unscrew the cap, hold it momentarily, screw the cap back on and set it down all without actually taking a drink of it. Smile

When they see me do that, they know the show is over ... notice how fast people approach the tip jar when I do so, it is very important.

Hey I thought I recognized that place. I've done broadway myself and love the myrtle beach area. The coke idea is quite good and you have obviously put a lot of thought into it. I have also found that letting your tip jar get to full wards off "dropping" money. I'm sure that people see that you have more money than they do and just think "why I should I add to it, maybe he should give me some?!"

But to be honest the reason the idol judges have their drinks out front is because the cups have their sponsors name on them.

My observation is that people don't care how much money I have anymore than I care how much money they have. Smile

I don't care if they give me money or not, I don't make money - I make magic. If I make good magic, then I will make good money ... I spent years as a starving artist not concerned about money, the fact that I can make good money now does not make me concerned about it now. Don't let money distract you from what you are doing.

The knowledge on using a soda bottle comes from four years at the comedy club where walking on stage with a drink is required. It is a very useful prop when used correctly. Taking a drink is a natural transition ... this video clip is only one example of me putting one to use, I use a drink throughout my entire thirty minute dinner show. The drinking helps define act one from act two and from act three.
