Hi Guys,
This trick seems pretty cool... Your thoughts? http://www.ellusionist.com/surge-by-mickael-chatelain.html Text Copy from Ellusionist Mickael Chatelain surges onto the scene in his Ellusionist debut. A 3-phase telekinetic time-bomb that puts the power of psychokinesis in your spectators hands! *Phase 1* Balance a freely selected card upright on the table, and with nothing else, cause it to fall over on your command. *Phase 2* Well you could of just blew it right? WRONG. To prove your newly-acquired powers are real (not just air), you place their card against the card box, and cause it to again fall down under your influence. *Phase 3* They've seen the magic. Now they can FEEL it! The spectator signs their selection and a corner is torn from it. Under James Randi-esque conditions, you can cause the corner to fly off their hand, finally proving that psychokinetic phenomenon is REAL. - Custom-made gimmick with 4 replacements included - Gimmicks come in red or blue, sorry no choice of color - No wires, thread or magnets - Minimal sleight of hand required - Nothing in your hands - Perform surrounded |

I'm just concerned by the fact that you get 4 replacements. That makes me think the gimmick must not be that stable.

Mickael uses them in different ways, and in different places, so with multiple gimmicks you aren't limited to just one thing. Each of these was made by hand and should last you for quite some time. |

I liked the corner under the glass bit, very nice conditions for a PK effect.

It looks nice but can it be used for just playing cards? Also will we need to buy refills?

As seen in the demo video the various effects look good.
It would be nice if someone can comment on the handling/ set-up and practical aspects.

Mickael is one of my favorite creators and I love the look of this so I rolled the dice and purchased and just finished watching the video.
As I don't have the gimmicks on hand yet, I cant comment on how well they function, but it should play out fine. Its clever, simple, practical and the handling should not arouse any suspicion. Spectator management may be an issue as once the piece jumps off their hand, you don't really know where it will land and it cant be examined. While not taught on the video, I think there may be a way to come up with a handling where they inspect their signed card completely first, and then the magic happens shortly after handing it back to you, but I will have to see once the gimmicks arrive. My only main concern is that the action is not under your control. To me these effects are so much more powerful when your gesture sparks the event. Maybe after playing with the gimmicks for a bit, you can get the timing down consistently, but only time will tell. |

TuneHV,
Thank you very much gor your initial thoughts. I look forward to your opinion after receipt of the actual gimmicks. Based upon the video download, do you think you can fairly estimate within a degree of reasonable certainty when the gimmick will activate or is there a lot of fluctuation? If the spectator casually picks up the card piece and hands it to you would the spectator notice something unusual with the card piece even without a close scrutiny? Thank you very much. Michael

Good questions, but I can't answer honestly until the gimmicks arrive. I don't want to speculate and provide bad info- can only give my first impressions for now having only learned the method.

So it sounds like a gimmick that might be similar to a haunted deck in terms of the timing gimmick.
That's never been an issue for me with a haunted deck (timing) as you should be able to make it look like it's under your direct control. If it works like other gimmicks it would be nearly impossible to exactly time.

If it uses the thing I think it does - I hope the timings are steady and reliable...i used to use same gimmick in an envelope I invented (to be used during something spooky)...the isolated piece under the glass looks good, the rest I'm not so keen on...
