Besides doing "finger magic" for young audiences, I also use finger puppets to perform what used to be known as "thimble magic" before thimbles began disappearing from the world. Combine that with story-telling while making the finger puppets appear and disappear, using both thimble moves and cup and ball moves, and you've got a ten minute show that holds the attention of young people and has them asking for more.

Thanks Harris. We didn't have those when I was in nursery Smile

The closest thing I've seen is a song called One Finger One Thumb keep moving, as per this clip I've found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae7psmRHRts

When I was ten or eleven I'd spend a week at Butlin's Holiday Camp, just north of Dublin and the children's entertainer was Dick Richards from Cardiff. He was assisted by his wife Esther. He'd open his shows with the song and we'd all join in. His version had a few more sequences than in the videoclip. From memory, it was, one finger one thumb, one arm, one leg, a nod of the head, a wink of the eye, a pat on the head, a rub a dub dub (rub your tummy), stand up, sit down.

When he'd get to stand up, Esther would put a round balloon on the chair and he'd sit down bursting it.

He also did the best cups and balls I've seen.

I just watched "Hans Christian Anderson" starring Danny Kaye for the umpteenth time, and thought of this post when I saw him perform "Thumbelina." It's on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOlK73eZq9w

Wonderful example.

The longer I have been in magic, the more
"Magic" I find without fancy props including expensive puppets.

While doing a patent search for a security device I own, I somehow ran across THIS http:// just wait, it's not worth it which makes it that much better.

I'll explain; It's not exactly for fingers-it's for your big toe. YES a puppet for your toe (yech). A TT for you toe and you can still say TT. NOW when you write TT you have to designate hands of feet.
Probably one of the 50 most worthless patents anyone could waste their money on

So... I asked my mentor Jim Swoger WHY... WHY anyone would bother to get a patent for something so ridicules and he philosophically said
"It just like a lot of magicians who think their idea is the greatest idea ever made BECAUSE they thought of it.
That's it, they thought of it therefore IT MUST be good. Has to he good because THEY thought of it.

OK... Enough build up.... Here it is
No just wait a minute. I promise you'll be rewarded Smile

REALLY, Seriously and..... really seriously?
I've had nightmares about this patent for several years and finally I have a reason to aggravate others. (Sorry)

---

By the way , the patent is still in force for a few years but then it belongs to the world, so be my guest to make these by the thousands and I wish you Rots of Ruck and I hope you make a million. -

Here it is. Have fun. http://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File......035.djvu

Somehow I imagine Harris doing this for a goof. (Another nightmare)

From the heavy Berlin Wall ( done with just 2 hands and powerful music)to lighter Danny Kaye's
Thumbelina ( also more powerful and delightful because of music) ..hands and fingers are great as puppets and communication

I have investigated legs and feet ( with shirts) as puppets in my younger limberer days

Hands and fingers are all right.

Unless you are A Lefty by
The name of
Jay Marshall.
