Surprised no one's posted on this yet.
I watched the series and in the begnning I wasn't sure. Now I think he's a criminally pathological liar and murderer who thinks he can (and has for thirty years) outsmart the public, the juries, the cops, lawyers and the courts. I'm still a little disturbed with his confession in the bathroom in the last episode with a live mic, especially since he was heard to have been talking to himself during one of the breaks in an earlier interview with the mic still on. You'd have thought a smart guy like this would have remembered something from that mistake. Seemed a little too contrived to me, but this story has been so bizarre I guess anything is possible at this point. Interested in your opinions.

I suppose Durst deserves a fair trial, but from what I have read it sounds as though he is guilty. How many people (not to mention Alaskan Malamutes) can die in one's presence before an objective party determines the deaths were not all innocent coincidences?
Andrew Jarecki did 'The Jinx' about Durst. Did you ever watch Jarecki's 'Capturing the Friedmans'? If not, watch that soon.

Thanks Balducci for that tip on Capturing the Friedmans'. Will do just that, watch it soon. I thought Jarecki did a good job on this documentary, but once again, Durst'sconfession bothers me. It seems he relishes the limelight no matter what he has to do to be there. I'm wondering if Durst is using Jarecki more than Jarecki is using Durst?

'Capturing the Friedmans' ... just watch it, do not read about it in advance if you can help it (IMO). There is a big magic connection.
I have not actually watched the Durst documentary, but I imagine I will do so soon.

Well I get the feeling he is involved in voodoo, the occult and is guilty but my money is on a not guilty from a quick scam of the evidence.

Don't do a quick scan tommy, the L.A. prosecutor on this case will go after him with a vengeance because he's a cold case guy who gets convictions. From what I've seen, it's what he likes to do. I don't think the high profile and expensive defense lawyer from Texas will be able to save Durst from this one.
@balducci, see The Jinx, I'm looking forward to Capturing the Friedmans. Will report back.

He can always use the defense that we hear many use. He is a product of his environment. It is not his fault. Just in this instance he came from a lot of wealth instead of poverty and it molded him that way and he knew no better. Again just a product of his environment not his fault.
I hope everyone realizes I am being my sarcastic self again. Incoming...

It occurs to me that one problem with an accused doing a search is that he then must go into the witness box in order to give the evidence of what he finds. I think the accused is better advised not to put himself in that position as he may not wish to go into the witness box at all. He is better advised to leave it to the experts who he can call in his defense, I think. I would like to hear Bobs view on all this. I have a feeling that some using it as a form of witness intimidation. I think over here we might call it an abuse of process. I have not heard of such goings on before.

That is not always the case as it really happens that when some white or blacks commit a crime the defense blames it on their environment and it is everyone's fault but theirs. Again good article.

Ignoring the fact, of course, that even when they have committed the exact same crime and have the same prior conviction records, blacks receive prison sentences FAR more often, and lengthier, than whites.

Sorry, my post above was meant for the other topic about defendants searching houses etcetera.

It's prevalent throughout the system, but primarily at the law enforcement and lower courts level.
