I have no problem adapting something to suit my performing situation or buying a trick and using it for something it was never even intended to be used for. The point others have made myself included is that you are paying for something that off the shelf simply did not work. It doesn't matter if this is a magic trick or a car if it's poorly made and doesn't work it should be replaced or money refunded by the company that supplied it. Surely you must be able to see that. It's the principle of the thing. What you are saying is that if you had spent £1000 on a trick and it didn't work, you would be happy to just say oh well I can see what's wrong with I'll have to fix it. If people choose to not complain that's up to them but it should still work. As I said before it's the principle. I'm afraid it's us that are laughing at you my friend for not being able to get your head around something that is so obvious. |

I just want to point out that I never purchased this piece of bottom drawer junk. The first review on this thread made sure of that.

I bought this second hand for like almost half of retail and I'm glad I did. Matrix pad just doesn't work. The dots don't stay in place. I even went through two stages of modifications trying to improve the materials. Both times I was not confident that the dots would stay where they needed to stay with normal handling. I kept practicing but I continued to encounter dropped dots.

I do see you point... But want to say the effect is a brilliant idea that simply needed 1 minor thing... And you should be able to tell in this thread I figured it out.
I honestly think his idea alone is worth the money paid for a trick that is tough to make work out of the box. Personally, I would have not released such a great effect nor am I sharing my solution... It keeps such a great effect on the down low. |

Perhaps you should share your fix with the creator so that he can send it out free, so that he doesn't feel so much of a conman.

Honestly, I feel I got it at a bargain for the asking price. I can think of several effects that I've paid a lot more and even then have modified the trick to better suit my own personal needs. One such trick was Gregory Wilson's exact change... A $75.00 effect. I added something to his gaff which made it much more easy to perform and way more effective. Did I pay too much for it? I think not! Very proud owner of that one as well my friends.

Exact change comes workable right out of the box , no modification is needled . The Matrix pad doesn't work right out of the box . Don't think these two are comparable ?

IMO this effect doesn't really excite me, I mean this effect is very interesting no offence but personally I feel there are more interesting and exiting visual effects. Furthermore you can't reset this effect instantly, which is kinda of a downside if you wish to do this effect multiple times within a short time span

Actually, a pretty good analogy.. The matrix pad works out of the box... You just need to be careful. Oh... Exact change may be more easy to not screw up, but it still needed something improved that I found a solution for... And it doesn't instantly reset either... And it's a wonderful effect! So many lame excuses!

The Matrix pad does technically work out of the box, just not well enough to use it for real world paid performing situation. I've made the attractive properties of the pad even stronger than what was originally used to build the gimmick and those dots won't stay through the handling of the pad in the pocket or when doing the final move of the effect. I very much wanted this to work, having spent several hours trying to modify it so that it would be functional and, at least for me, it just won't stand up to the rigors of real world handling and performance. I would caution anyone who thinks about purchasing this to be wary...
IMHO, your mileage may vary.

I'd agree... But there is a simple solution that I have already used in live performances. So simple you'd kick yourself for not thinking of it. It literally takes a few seconds to make it all good and reliable.

Has anyone delved into THE MATRIX PAD RELOADED?
Supposedly the gimmick is stronger and it comes with a plastic case to carry and protect the pad.

I too am interested in the new version. The effect is fantastic but version 1 was an unworkable mess. So bad that I just tossed it.

This effect basically got good reviews EXCEPT for the fact that it was unreliable.
The new Reloaded version claims it is 10 times stronger but just as thin. Plus, comes with a plastic holder case. I'm not sure if the original did as I never owned it. But I've always been intrigued by the moving ink effect. Any reviews on the latest version? |

I spoke to Paul Gross at Hocus Pocus magic and one of his associates who said that they've sold the RELOADED version and had no complaints.
So.....The Matrix Pad RELOADED has arrived!!! A little history, I thought the original effect was a great idea however the props were lacking. If they just tweaked it, I thought it would be workable. Well, they didn't just tweak it. They tore the thing apart, rebuilt it, keeping the effect the same while making the workings so much better, in so many ways. The gaff is no longer in the pad. It's outside the pad. The gaffs are stronger so you don't have to be as concerned about things flying all over the place. I'd still be careful, but it's no longer upset by a gentle breeze. Two major things. The new gaff makes changing from one pad to another (refilling) a breeze. The new gaff allows you to set up one pad for multiple uses. Because of this, reset time is maybe 5 seconds. The new gaff allows you to set up multiple pads in advance so that you can swap out the gaff onto a new pad and be ready to perform. Swap time - again maybe 5-10 seconds (Note:as the pad goes down, you will have to refill due to the design of the new gaff.) The holder for the pad was a great idea. It keeps everything safe and in place in your pocket so that when you're ready to perform, you just grab and go. Matrix Pad RELOADED looks to be a worker now. If you had the first one, this is definitely worth a second look. I'm glad I did.

You might have to search Matrix Pad Reloaded as this site is set up differently than Penguin's.
