What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

It's total BS. The Prime Minister seems to think that some anonymous person who claims to be associated with ISIS on Youtube calling on sympathizers to attack Jewish-owned malls (naming one in Canada) amounts to a declaration of war. He's full of crap.
Stephen Harper is a crass opportunist, hoping that by deflecting attention to a Middle East war, the electorate will ignore or forgive the scandals and incompetence of his government. As for the Toronto Sun--any article composed of 1-sentence paragraphs is aimed at about a grade-5 comprehension level.

It will still probably work though, as the wee people are so superficial it’s embarrassing.

From the article:

ISIS thrives on constant expansion. There's zero evidence to support this, and quite a lot of reason to believe that western military action is exactly what helps ISIS to expand.

Yeah, I can see how the print edition of The Toronto Sun would want to save space for the many "adult entertainment ads" it runs to pay its bills, not to mention its "Sun Girl" of the day pin-up, miscellaneous cheesecake photos, etc. (*) But I didn't realize the internet was running out of space to the extant that online articles were supposed to be written in 1 sentence paragraphs. (*) Not that I am railing against any of these things necessarily ... it is just that the stuff The Toronto Sun publishes makes it difficult for me to consider it a serious news source. As for Michael Coren, this is he:

You're right, if he "flipped someone the bird"
He must be a terrible author. My apologies. |

The Sun is a big money lightweight tabloid specializing in knee-jerk populist jingoism. No, I see no reason to take it seriously.

I expected more from you, John.
Its easy to judge a book by its cover, but the Comment section has some excellent writers. Its fouding editor, Peter Worthington, now deceased, I would put against any journalist in Canadian history. You don't have to like the tabloid or its editorial viewpoint, but I wouldn't have expected such a blanket judgement. |

Canada must fight ISIS in Syria because it does not have the power to resist the forces of knee-jerk populist jingoism. I didn't get where I am today by not taking the forces of knee-jerk populist jingoism seriously.

Worthington also left the Sun several times during his life, to work for its rivals. Worthington "resigned several times on principle [from the Sun before] being fired in 1984 for publicly criticizing the Sun chain’s news coverage. 'The Edmonton Journal, Calgary Herald, the Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail are going to inform people as to what's happening far more than any of the Suns,' he said in a book tour interview. 'If I was in Edmonton, I'd read the Journal if I only had one newspaper, no question.'" I remember golfing with one of the Sun's editorial board back in the 90s (a random golf pairing at a local course). I asked him about why the Sun was the way it was. I forget his exact words, but he basically confirmed that the Sun markets itself to (I am being polite here) 'silly people' who care less about facts than having their biases sold back to them.

Id like to stay on topic, but as a quick example, I'm not fond of the Globe and Mail, but I always appreciated the talents of Rex Murphy. Had I rejected the Globe as a whole, I would have missed out on Murphy and others.
Same goes for the National Post and the ghastly Toronto Star. |

And in any case any notion I had (about the Sun not being the best place to get serious news) was confirmed by two members of the Sun's editorial board (as remarked upon above). Look, the Sun might have a decent columnist from time to time. But, overall, the quality of its stable of journalists pales in comparison to those at the other major newspapers we have.

Thanks for your opinion. I respect it. And it was published on an online magic forum.
This lady published her opinion in the Toronto Sun. I also respect her opinion. |

From the linked article "the necessity of extending Canada’s military mission in Iraq into Syria in my Feb. 5 columm.
In fact, I advocated removing Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad from power." I could not get past the un-proved necessity of invading another country on another continent and the astonishing notion of affecting another sovereign nation by "removing" its head of state. Comedy has its place.
