I understand that Chalet makes an incredible trunk. However it looks to me like the basic subtrunk design. If I can build my own or have one built for me by a wood-worker, I can save a lot of money. Does Chalet use the common plans? Does anyone know who's plans comes closest to the way chalet's trunk looks? Any help is appreciated.

I don't think Chalet uses a "standard" subtrunk design. George usually makes his own plans after carefully making changes over the years. While most trunks look fairly similar, the differences would be in the gimmicked mechanism.
Of all the illusions built by Chalet, I would think their subtrunk and Mini Kub Zag would be the ones they are most noted for. Craftsmanship is the reason. I would suggest saving up the money and buy and Chalet trunk. You won't regret it. |

Look into Paul Osborne's plans. The trunk isn't that difficult to build and you can size it for your own needs.

Lucy and I also use a Chalet Sub Trunk. It has been all over the country and survived Six-Flags. And it looks like new. It never fails, can be packed flat and shipped cheaply, is our "secured storage" behind stage, and not for sale. I like "reliable" miracles!
If something happened to this one, I would buy another exactly like it. I've never seen a substitute that was worth an even trade to me and some others actually cost more. It was bought to use, not to save money. Ultimately it does both! If you can't afford a Chalet Sub Trunk, save your money until you can. There is a huge difference between spending and investing. If you don't have money to spare, investing makes much more sense. Bob Magic By Sander |

I haven't seen it there, nor do I recall it on Chalet's site.
I assume you are speaking of the steamer style trunk, or the hexagon style trunk, by Chalet. Keep in mind that there are many dealers who make sub trunks, and even the steamer style ones. - Donald

Chalet does make good trunks. I have built a few from the Paul Osborne plans with great success. For a few hundred, & some time, I'm happy with the results. Osborns plans are clear & direct. I recommend them! Hope this helps.

I used the chalet trunk for 3 seasons of park shows for Paul Osoborne.. for the price.. there is no better trunk made.. howver.. make sure you put a magic marker mark or some other identifying mark on the front or rear of your lid. The trunk is symmetrical... and occasionally was a challenge when my assistants wheeled the trunk onstage back to front. it' makes for a very challenging exchange when you;'ve done it the other way 1200 times..
I've owned abotu 5 other trunks... and without question.. the Chalet is the best. |

Chalet is a superb trunk. I took one apart and attempted to duplicate it. The trap never worked as well as Chalet's. Get Chalet's -- it's far better than making your own.

For the routine I am hoping to attempt I need the it to be a t** t*** Can someone tell me if chalet;'s trunk is?

Yes, it is t** t***, and very well-made and hidden. The supports are solid and attached at both ends, unlike some which have free-hanging ends during the "pivot" move.

Thanks- this is going to take some consideration. I've either got to build my own or buy.

Nick,
I would save money somewhere else. Buy the Chalet sub trunk. It's an investment. (Get the wheels and pull straps too!) Bob Magic By Sander |
