Hey Kyle, Thought I would throw in afew lines for you. If you like it so far. I'll finish!
Charlie Cabrera How many people here love to go on vacations? For you kids out there that means... NO SCHOOL!! (As for the adults that means...no kids!) That means that once I show you the tick, I am going to explain to each and every one of you exactly how I did it. (For only $19.95) You start with this here silk handkerchief. (You might think its dirty, but itsnot) You COULD use another finger,( but you may want to save that finger for a heckler) Where does the silk go to, right back here in the back pocket (of my designer Walmart pants!)

Charlie:
Great stuff my friend. I like some of them a lot and would like to include them into the routine if it would be ok for you. Of course I am going to test the routine out a few times and see what lines seem to be working the best etc. My favorite lines are the WalMart pants, $19.95 and I love the line.. and for you adults that means no kids. Great stuff. Thank you. May I have permission to use some of these? Kyle

Yes Kyle, I wrote them for your routine
This does not do anything at all("but they don't know that!") Then you can just grab a glass, crack the egg open (and the yoke is on them!) I always got a good laff from this line.

Aaaaww perhaps after I crack it I can look at my hand and use the line aimed towards myself by saying.. "oh man I guess the yolks on me afterall." I think that could go over quite well.
Thanks for the suggestions. It is most appreciated. Kyle

Here's another thought on the finish that keeps the continuity of teaching them the routine. After you crack the egg, you could keep the shells in your hand and switch them in your pouch for the fake egg. Then you could pull the silk out of the hole and "teach" them how to do it all again by restoring the egg shells to their original condition so they can start all over. I've never tried this, but all the creativity here sparked the idea. Feel free to use it if you like.

Kyle,
I am enjoying this thread very much! Thank you for sharing your well thought out routine it is fun watching it be refined. If "oh man I guess the yolks on me afterall." You could then pull the silk out to clean up. You then have a reason for looking for the silk. I also think the eclipse TT is perfect for this.

That is an interesting idea but I think, for me, that it might be anti-climatic at this point. It might be wporth playing around with tough at a later point. Jewls: That is exactly what I had in mind. When I say.. oh it looks like the yolk was on me afterall, it gives me a perfect and logical reason to actually look for something to whipe the yolk off with. it would be a perfect little something to end the routine with. The eclispe TT will work great for doing this as well. Thanks all. I am very excited about trying this out real soon. Kyle

I believe the hankerchief (for heaven's sake not the SILK) from the head idea is credited to Ammar.

I also believe seeing Ammar do it as well. It is a nice idea and I may adapt it slightly as a nice afterthought action for the routine. I am going to test it out this wekeend and will let you guys know how it goes.
I also posted my cardiographic routine that I am working on for the same family type crowd. I haev always liked the effect but I think I finally may have a routine that I like that fits my own style. Check it out if you get a chance. I could use the feedback. Thanks again everyone for the great ideas. Kyle I just had to tell you all that I performed the silk in egg routine for the first time today and it went over wonderfully. I got a HUGE reaction at the end and the joke lines you guys came up with really had them laughing along the journey. I was very pleased with the first outing and I plan on doing it more often to get it running smoother. Man I was so impressed with how the switch worked. The apron idea worked perfectly. I could have taken all day to make the switch and no one would have noticed cause the misdirection of takeing the silk out of my back pocket covers it all. Well, I just wanted to share with you my success as you all had a big part in how well it went over. I applaude you all. Thanks. Kyle

Kyle, I have seen don alan do the trick and he does this.
he pokes the silk in the hand. then says the silk is gone and appeared in his pocket. takes the silk out of his pocket. people say "what is in your hand" and he repleys "oh an egg". I like this more because the appearence of the egg is magical and a bigger surprise. if you first show the egg and then the silk from the pocket people know it is a different silk. the dot on forehead you can find I a book from micheal Ammar. for the finale: show egg then pull silk from pocket. as an afterthought explain no people behind you or they will see the hole. just take of the hole of and crack open. this way you don't have a problem with the silk. if you don't show the silk and crack open the egg the trick you showed at the beginning is not the same as the end and people feel "tricked" it is the same feeling as with the bra trick. you explain I am going to make this silk vanish and appear between these 2 silks. silks vanishes and bra appears. where is the silk? dramatically you are unfinished. that is the same as the silk with egg. kyle , I hope you understand my point p.s. you say "we like to show you this routine" people don't know what a routine is. just say "let me show it to you" p.p.s/ to get the carneval atmosphere may you could ask todd robbins about the manner of speaking. http://www.toddrobbins.com/ |

For kid audiences and good finish for the Walk-Around Silk to Egg is to finish, not with reproducing the missing silk from the gimmicked egg, but produce the large sponge bunny!
(Yes,it means you have two gimmicks. One with the bunny and one for the silk.) Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- Robert, Great to see you on here. |

WOWSERS!!! I can not believe this thread is back on the top again. I had forgotten about it ages ago and I am the one who created it. lol It is 4 years old. Yikes. lol
Well I can tell you that I have used the routine I created and have performed it many times since this was written back in 2004. It has evolved a great deal over the years to run smoother and have more comedy byplay. However, it works really well and has been a fun routine for the family shows I do. People get into it and it works for Kelly and I due to the style of performance we like to present. I hope others are enjoying the routine and it opens your mind to what can be done with this great effect. Kyle

Ok, I did not read this entire thread, but will post an idea I came up with while working on this back in August.
When I peeled the sticker off the egg, I stuck it to the pack of a magician's hat, which was sitting on a barstool. (I worked out of the hat to do the switches, etc) Anyway, after I crack the egg, I tell the audience, and remember, this will take lots of practice. As I say that, I pick up the hat and it turns around, showing a dozen or so of the stickers stuck on the back of the hat! So, the glass is in my left hand, and the above action is done with my right hand, so it's a little clever kicker, as well as putting me in applause cue position. Hope that makes sense!

Nice idea Tim. It adds a comical moment and does indeed place you into a nice applause pose. You could also do this by placing a sticker on the hat and turning it around. Then state (as an after thought) "In order to do this folks.. I always like a carry an extra spare." Then make it look as if you are pulling a silk straight through the hole in the hat. Gives it a little extra kicker. Just something to play around with if nothing more.

I believe that Karrol Fox(not Oscar M) originated the handling with the TT and a real egg, and I have found that it is still very powerful impact, without the need to show the silk going into the fake egg, in fact, the fact you don't have to do the switch makes the entire effect more powerful, imo
