I think Dee may have lost his mind.
He's doing a frankly crazy offer here:

Those of you that know me know I very seldom recommend anything but this is fabulous real world stuff from one of the few creators that actually works full time.

Deal of the Century here. The chapter on Gimmicks and Devices is worth the price of everything.

That’s an incredible bundle. I bought this although I already own some parts of it. Deep shadows was on my wish list for quite some time. With that price I couldn’t resist. I really like Dee’s work and thinking. And he is a nice guy, taking care about his customers. I had a small issue with the download. Dee solved the issue in no time. That’s customer service.

You mean most creators don't work full time?

I believe all creators work full-time...can you provide any names of those who do not?

Mike

It's okay to admit you were wrong, Suffolk.

I'm not.
Looch isn't full time. He works with young offenders.
Todd Landmen is a university lecturer.
James Biss was a teacher until he got "too close" to a student.
James Brown owns a business in Poole in Dorset. A fish shop maybe?
Colin McCloud only went full time about a year ago - his day job was a motivational speech company specialising in schools.

And on and on and on.

For me, the value of any offering is the value of the offering, not in the provenance of the person or his or her employment status. In a way the list above (to whom we could add many many names) suggests to me that good usable material can come from those who do not perform full time. Dee's stuff is excellent and the bundle is a great deal.

And Dee's stuff has the added insight of someone working full time as their main focus.

The above all produce good stuff. That wasn't the question I was REPEATEDLY asked.

I answered the question. Todd has corroborated that many, indeed most, creators aren't full time performers. That may be of no interest or relevance to you. However, if you want stuff created in the context of someone going out and doing it week in week out in real world paying situations, Dee's stuff has been created in those circumstances.

Very interesting to hear about magicians and their other professions.

Indeed, there is added insight Doug. I also note that Dee was a rock musician and is a model if I am not mistaken (and a bloody marvellous mentalist). Many of us who do not perform full time still nonetheless perform many times a month for the same clients and venues as our full time colleagues from which we also gain much insight. We have private clients, corporate clients, weddings, parties, after dinner speeches with mentalism, stage shows, TV and DVD opportunities, etc. I do believe these are real world paying situations, they are just less frequent perhaps...

Depends what you mean by "work full-time." If you mean that most of them perform full-time you are simply wrong. In fact, most don't. The majority of creators over the years have been amateurs who held more traditional full time jobs.

If you need any proof of that just look at the biographies of the contributors at the end of J.G. Thompson's "My Best." (Thompson, BTW, was a banker.)

People are making this thread into something it doesn't have to be.
It stuns me how defensive people get about this.

If it's not your job you can give yourself more slack.
You can afford to experiment.
A reaction can be less than overwhelming.

You can kid yourself that people enjoyed a long rambling presentation because they are polite etc, etc.

I can & do speak publicly and informedly about civil rights.
I'm really bloody good at it and my audiences love it.
There is value in those presentations

That doesn't make me a civil rights lecturer.

Nor will I ever understand what it means to be an academic unless I spend a couple of years as a university lecturer.

I am in the process of writing a book about civil rights.
I expect it to be very we'll received by lay people like me interested in the subject and if that's all they want from that publication, that's fine.
But it won't be academically rigourous or "properly" annotated because I don't have to do the dull nitty gritty of proper academia all day everyday.

If you want that you should buy a book by someone like Todd.
That may not be what you want. But it may be.

Todd, Although Dee has lots of photos taken, I think you're confusing him with the model Troy.

I agree with Doug here, there is a difference between someone performing (professionally) most nights of the week, or full time, and those who perform a few times a month. I'd even go as far as to say that someone performing down the pub for friends and other customers has more insight than some armchair mentalists.

It is immediately apparent who has done the time in performing, and those who are dilettantes in our field.

Wow, thanks for your kind words gentlemen and this thread has swung wayyyy off course! I did try to reply earlier, but unfortunately my post didn't post or it somehow vanished!

Thanks for posting that review from Draven too Jamie, I hadn't seen it before now! Well, there's only a few days left on this offer, then I'll be changing my café banner to reflect something new. Grab your copy of this deal as soon as you can - It's ridiculous really, but I'd like to get my work into as many hands as possible!

http://www.deechristopher.co.uk/products/magic-cafe-offer is the link - If anyone has any other reviews or words to say, I'd love to hear them! Smile

Dee´s material is creative and practical to perform. His psychometry routine with credit cards is a beautiful piece that shows his thinking.
