In honor of all moms across the world, I will be releasing a limited edition manuscript of a mentalism effect I am calling MOM's special day. The release date is mother's day 2015.
Unlike my most recent release, this one does not come at a high cost. In fact, it comes at no cost. Yes, you read that right. This publication is free...bu again, limited to only 50 people. If you are one of the first 50 people to post on this thread highlighting one special memory you have of your mom that means a lot to you, then you will receive this effect on Mother's Day. The effect is entertaining and baffling. You tell someone to think of a date that is of personal significance to them. They do. Without any questions, you get someone else to divine this date. No stooges, no dual reality, no props, no questions. And this can be done over the phone. I have found it to be a stunning piece of mentalism, with a 100% success rate. Also, absolutely no force! The date can be any date and will likely change every time you perform this, based on your spectator's free choice. Happy mother's day to all moms, in advance! Regards, Mike |

When I was in my early teens, she used to sit on the sofa and I'd perform my latest for her. She'd usually have no idea how things were done, so her advice and feedback were from an audience's POV. Most valuable....I'd learn about dead time, when I was fiddling around, etc. Physical things, show things. She guided me to make the performance itself smoother, more relaxed...better. Her patience had purpose.

I am sorry you feel that way, Iain. As a working professional, I may disagree with certain things at certain times. Recently, a respected Café member and friend informed me that my tone, at times, has been a little less than positive. I am aware of this weakness, and I am working on it. Thanks.

What a great recollection, Tom. Thanks for sharing. I too used my mother as a spectator when I practiced during my younger days..got some honest advice too!
I have you on my list and will PM you with instructions to download my latest creation. Hope you enjoy it. Regards, Mike Quote:

I'm well aware of the issues at play here, and I'll give Insight the benefit of the doubt. I'd be delighted to see him make good on his word.
When I was eight, my mother got a large rectangular cardboard box from the grocery store. It had originally held hundreds of rolls of toilet paper. She painted it red, stenciled SCOTTDINI on the sides and added reinforced white rope handles. I used that as my magic "trunk" for many years and even did some handcuff escapes in that box. I might make another one of those. Honestly, it was a very good and efficient solution. Not all moms could, or would, do that. |

I can't remember how old I was. 7 or 8, in that area. Times were tough at home. The company that employed my father had closed down just after my parents spent all their savings to buy the house. There was no money left and no money coming in. I have memories of going to our neighbors with empty bottle to ask them for water. I thought it was fun. I also found it fun to wear coats and scarves inside instead of turning on the heating.
Anyway, I was very much looking forward to my birthday and was harassing my mother with that, with hat kind of part I wanted, etc. I was a bit sad she didn't really listened to me, I didn't realize she had taken on two housekeeping jobs. Well, when the day came, I felt abandonned: nobody was paying attention to me. And it's trying not to cry I answered my mom's call to diner. It was just the two of us. I don't remember where the rest of the family was that night. The only food on the table was a *huge* chocolate cake my mom had baked! I thought it was my mest birthday party ever.

My first day at school my mum gave me baloney sandwiches. When I was home she asked how I liked them. I enthusiastically told her I loved them not wanting to upset her. She thought she was doing a favour and I had them for the majority of my schooling. I never had the heart to tell her I didn't like baloney, as she always had a beautiful look on her face when she asked me, thinking she was doing something so special for her boy.

I remember when my mother would make fish with bone - ah, every Tuesday night - a fish with all its bones in it. Spitting out those little barbed ribs.... ah, whenever I encounter fish bones in a supposed fillet free of them - I think of mom.
OK - I'm one of the first 50 to post here. I am going to see if you make good on Mothers Day.

I practiced magic/illusion in secret for a long while before I told anyone. My mom was one of the first. I decided to tell her by showing her the best thing I knew at the time, Shinkoh's Twisting Arm Illusion. She didn't take it so well. In fact, she left the room, and unbeknownst to me, called 911. I had to convince her that I was okay and to cancel the ambulance. These days, I perform sideshow stunts and she hates them, so I try to prevent her from seeing those.

I remember my Mom very much, even though I was a working professinal and on tour, everytime I would come home to visit, Mom would say, "When are you going to get a real job? Some day you will meet a nice girl who will make you forget all about that magic nonsense."
Sorry mom, may you soul rest in peace, but this is my real job even to this day. YES I did meet many nice girls, but forgot ABOUT THEM because of this magic nonsense. |

Mom always supported my interests. When I was eight years-old and interested in making my own monster make-up and costumes, Dad and I built a headpiece while she sewed me a Frankenstein costume that was short in the trousers and sleeves so I'd look overgrown. I won a costume contest with that. When I wanted to stay in my room and draw, she'd buy art supplies (she began teaching as a substitute so she could afford to get my brother and I some things yet still be home when we were done with the school day).
When I pursued my interest in magic as a 15-year-old, she endured more than a few card tricks patiently. One day I left the door to the bathroom open and she walked by and saw her son standing over the sink mutilating his arm with a hat pin while blood dripped down (thank you, Harry Anderson, and thank you, reader, for not assuming the worst before reaching the end of the sentence). After the shock she saw my smiling demeanor and realized it must be an illusion, put up her hand stiffly and walked by without looking again. She's taken plenty of bad situations well. It's hard to narrow to one meaningful moment, isn't it? My entire life is filled with gifts, acts of service, time spent, etc., from Mom. A generous heart she has, and she knows that those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Cheers.

My Mom, use to drop me on the floor quite often.
It was not because, She was uncaring ... It was because, She Loved me so much ! She, kept me covered in Baby Oil. All, the time during my first year of life. I was just so slippery, She could not keep a grip on me ! This started my urge to learn how to 'Levitate'. Thank You, Mom! My Dad, use to call Her, "Butter Fingers". ~G

My mum is from a foreign country, so when I was younger she would sing me the songs that she heard back in her home country. The words of those songs still inspire me today and have a special place in my heart. Whenever I feel down or feel that I do not have what it takes to be the best, I still hear those words and they help me to overcome any obstacles I may face. Thanks for inspiring me in everything you do mum x
