I'm just learning the Egg Bag routine. I've been watching the Hobson routine on the net.
When he lets the assistant peek into the bag when doing her routine is the egg in the bag? If so, why doesn't she see the egg? |

Because it's not in the bag anymore, it's Magic.

Because it's wearing a tiny egg sized Mac King Cloak of Invisibility.
But if you really want to know, learn an Egg Bag routine using a Malini Style bag. It employs a similar subterfuge.

Have you purchased his product yet?
All will be revealed except his presentation. There are other sources that may help you understand the moves etc. better. Ken Brooke, Harry Riser, Charlie Miller, Ron Bauer, Senor Mardo to name a few. Best, Dorian Rhodell |

I have the Martin Lewis "The Señor Mardo Egg Bag" DVD, but it isn't very helpful. I don't recommend it.

I think I may have found the answer and the technique. Hint: is it because the gimmick goes "across" as well as down?

In my own Egg Bag routine called "There's An Egg in Your Hat" (found in Mini-Mysteries Book 4 on The Magic Nook), a spectator removes his hat and starts to hand it to me. I tell him to please remove the egg from his hat because the magic won't work if there is an egg in his hat. It's his hat, he was just wearing it, but he looks anyway and tells you there is no egg in his hat. I take the hat but pass it over to a second spectator for a second opinion. The second spectator not only sees an egg in the hat, but removes it and shows it to the owner of the hat. No gimmicks are needed for this. It's what we magicians call "sleight of hand" combined with what many call "misdirection" which is really "misleading direction." You can buy any number of gimmicked egg bags at magic shops, but you can't buy this without investing in your knowledge of magic and techniques by reading and studying the real principles behind what causes ordinary actions to appear to be magic.
