Nice looking rings, and a very elegant looking routine.

I am sure the rings are from China, they sell them on eBay for like $10. That is how this item is priced at $50. So you will not be getting a high quality rings with a totally invisible gimmick.
Don't quite get the comments above, doesn't anyone go to links anymore. It clearly says the linking of 3 borrowed finger rings. Those not familiar with the original routine by Al Koran, should know that his routine was the linking of 3 borrowed rings. As is this one. It is all the switching and handling just like normal. The extra ring is just for your convenience in case anyone wants to examine. So just like always, you don't wear the ring, and no one should know that it is your ring you are using. Of course in a pinch you could, say, no third person, so I will use my ring. Of course, this lessons the magic just a little. As in the terrible Demo video, you should note, you will still need to use spectator management, and do a lot of in the hands manipulation and switching of the rings. Whether it is borrowing a ring or the audience is aware you are using your own ring. In the video, the drop switch seems to be used, this is a terrible switch to use in this situation. I would search for a better handling and switch. There was some moves that looks like they would be useful in a better linking and unlinking of the rings. So the investment does look like, even if you have a version, you will learn something new, that you may just find useful to use in your routine. I have to say, I don't have this version yet, it just came out, but I have about 6 other Himber Rings with routines and have worked on this effect for many years. I simply have drawn my conclusions from the ad and demo video. It is apparent when you have a lot to compare this to. |

View it as a pro routine you're getting for $50, and use your own superior him*** ring.
Purely as a matter of taste I don't like the style of those cheap him*** rings - I prefer a more traditional signet-style ring. But I've been doing the Linking Finger Rings close up for years, openly using my own ring and two of theirs, with a switch at the end to leave them in their hand. The time they want to grab the rings for a closer look is when they're linked, not at the end. And part-way through the routine it is easier to employ some audience management as you move on to the next stage. Think about it: to a non-magician the sight of their rings linked in a chain of three is bizarre in the extreme. And with just a bit of thought you can motivate the inclusion of your own ring. Without doubt the effect has to play differently close-up than in stand-up: it's inevitable. I have found I get way more from the Linking Rings in stand up than I do in close up - mainly because you have to move faster in walk around, and to manage the spectators. In stand up you can pace it better, and enjoy more wonder at the magical effects you're bringing about. But Paul Romhany's routines are superb - along with Scott Alexander he is so good at finding the commercial angle in a routine, especially the classics. So for the price of entry Paul's insights into this fine classic effect will be worthy of study - even if you consign the crappy rings to the drawer. Even in the not entirely helpful trailer, Paul's handling of spectators looks pretty elegant - but that crab-like one-hand switch looks clunky to my eyes. But then I'm sure my own handling is by no means elegant: you are simply being burned, burned, burned right when you have to do that switch. But don't get this if you want to learn a great routine for stand-up/parlour/parlour use. There are better elsewhere: Nick Lewin, Pete Biro/Joe Porper, David Regal, Scott Alexander have some great work on the subject. But be prepared to max out your credit card - these pros don't part with their livelihood cheaply. And nor should we expect them to. So we should be carrying Paul Romhany out of the room at shoulder height for parting with this so cheap. Another cheapo tip: Nick Einhorn had a lovely handling in his lecture. I think they were in his lecture notes at one time, now OOP. Very smooth, strong, beautifully pointed: using a wineglass to hold the rings. |

Thought I would chime in here as I'm getting so many emails from people asking about differences. Please feel free to EMAIL me if you have any questions about ANY of my products. I am happy to answer ANY questions privately rather than on public forums. I very rarely get on the Café these days due to my busy schedule of performing and running VANISH magazine. (see the plug for VANISH there:)
This routine is designed for CLOSE-UP not stage or parlour and is different than any other handling where you need to switch to try and show three rings etc. I perform this walk-around and so the handling is different than anything out there. Even on the DVD I recommend Nick Lewin's routine and Tom Stone's for stand up. Again, this is a CLOSE-UP routine where you are working for restaurants, for 2 people or 6 people in a walk-about situation or on the street. I perform Nick Lewins routine myself when doing my cruise ship show for 1500 people. This is designed so people can BURN your hands if they want and there is nothing to see. The rings I supply I have owned myself for 2 years now and wear it all the time when performing. In fact this routine ONLY works with the rings I supply. It will NOT work with any other ring such as a signet or Porper ring. Again it is ALL explained with various rings that are currently on the market and why they WILL NOT WORK. This ring is designed for the working performer such as myself and as such I need something that if lost or stolen won't make me cry:) As I say in the tutorial I've used this ring thousands of times and it never fails me. The reset is instant and I can do this anytime and anywhere. I created a one handed link and unlink that works completely surrounded. Actually you will learn some variations to show only THREE rings on your finger. At the end of the day I designed this routine because I loved linking finger rings so much. It's incredibly strong in the 'real' world where I am paid to make a living doing magic. The way I designed the handling is so you can do this completely surrounded - free and clean before and after with everything examined. Please remember the structure of the routine is important - I keep telling people this is NOT a trick for stage like everything else - this is purely for close-up and walkabout and as such the stucture needs to be different. When you purchase this you get a book with download tutorial - so it will all be explained. I've been doing Himber Rings for almost 30 years now and have quite the collection of rings. I even own one made by Dick Himber! There has never been a routine for the walk-about perfomer. Nick Lewin himself said there is nothing out there like this and said this was the perfect routine for close-up performers. Again - if you have any questions please email me. I can easily get over 100 emails a day but I do spend time at night to answer each of them no matter where in the world I will be. At the end of the day this is a routine from my working repertoire. I supply the rings I use and have done so for years - actually the same one. Again, the rings I supply are the ONLY ones I've found work with my handling which allows me to use ANY size rings from the audience. Hope this answers some questions and feel free to contact me. Wishing you well Paul

Re sizes - I discuss in the download what to do about the ring if it doesn't fit. A friend of mine wears his on his pinky and another friend does something else with it which is a great idea - so even though it might not fit your finger you can still use it and incorporate it in to your show - I've shared this with many friends over the years and each one has come up with a different way to wear the ring.
Mind you I still would like to do a linking nose ring trick with two people:)

The first thing I talk about is addressing the challenge of using your ring - there needs to be a reason which is well covered in the instructions. Any routine I perform should make sense and have flow. This has gone through many years of work and literally thousands of performances until it is fine tuned to the point it fools me:)
On another note - take a break from Linking Finger Rings and check this out for fun - https://youtu.be/B0MEOvIxIeg

OK - ONE final thing (I promise:)
There are more than one unlink taught on here - I spent years working on links and unlinks until I found what works for me - however I decided to include on the video tutorial variations of the unlink. I think you'll actually be very impressed with the unlink because it's visible at all time. In all other routine the unlink is always done hidden in the hands - this is done on ONE finger and happens instantly making this the easiest method. I discovered something quite unique you can only do with the ring I supply which makes this so clean. I'm off for GOLF NOW

I really like the looks of this. The problem I have with some of the more expensive himber rings is they are not the sort of ring I would wear. This ring has a unique look. On my right hand I normally wear a Kinekt gear ring that is super cool. This ring has a unique, very cool look. I love the idea of a walk-around or close-up ring and routine.

Hey guys! So I just finished watching the download that accompanies this project so I thought I'd address a few comments that were mentioned in this thread. First off I was really impressed with this routine. I love the Linking Finger Rings plot, however as 99% of my magic is close up, I've never invested in some of the really nice himber ring sets out there since I know that they are meant for stage, so the fact that this routine was designed for close up already caught my attention. Paul is an excellent teacher, and covers everything you'd ever want to know about the routine. He takes the time to address other himber ring sets out there and why the style or ring included is the only kind that will work with this routine. Without revealing anything on how the ring works, the reason this is important is because of how large the opening is. The load of the specs rings onto the gimmick is probably one of my favorite parts about this routine. As I was watching the routine and saw him load the first ring, I said to myself out loud "Holy crap that's brilliant!" The handling is incredibly clean and very angle friendly, Paul even addresses alternative handlings depending on the type of crowd you have. He also covers a few one handed unlinks. You can tell that Paul has spent quite a bit of time thinking about these unlinks. Personally after watching the download I came up with an unlink that works better for my hands, but it was deff inspired by Paul's work. Overall this routine was really well thought out and is perfect for anyone who wants to perform a linking finger ring routine in a close up or strolling situation.

Over the last few years I have really fallen in love with the LFR plot. I bought David Regal's set for stage and found his routine to be lacking, especially in terms of scripting. I recently bought Nick Lewin's routine and it really is a master class in magic.
However, using Paul's routine really allows one to do this for table side magic or even for a living room/private party set. As with everything else I've purchased from Paul, this is a real world worker's dream. I also feel the Smoke addition to the routine is inspired. Paul's handling, motivation, performing philosophy is in full display here. The sleights are within the reach of the average performer and again this will PLAY in the real world. I can't recommend this high enough. I don't do as much closeup as I used to, but this is definitely going right in. Additionally, any suspicions that the supplied rings are of low quality are false. I've seen and handled some of the low quality $20ish himber rings but the rings Paul supplies are surprisingly sturdy and should last a loooooong time. |

I just purchased this the other day, and I found it to be rather well thought out and constructed. Everything makes sense and the link and unlink are done out in the open. Showing just three finger rings to start is really clean, especially the method where you can do this surrounded with palm open. It is the first time I have ever seen anybody do this and it is perfect for strolling gigs. I can also see why this ring works best for the close-up because of its construction. Paul also suggests a few ways to use this if the ring does not fit on your finger. I own other rings, such as the Regal, and they do not work in the close-up version using Paul’s handling, due their design. He also shows other rings such as the Porper, and an original Himber, that will not work and he explains the reason why. Clearly his routine is designed only for the ring as provided.
Paul offers two different methods for unlinking the rings, but I like his first version the best. What I also like, is the way everything is done in one-hand and in the open. The rings are in full view the entire time. With other routines that I have tried, you are forced to cover the rings in your hand when unlinking them. Although as Paul notes, this is a close-up effect and not a stage routine. The main point here is that this routine and handling are designed for strolling and close-up work. Paul suggests using Nick Lewin’s routine for stage. This is definitely going in to my strolling repertoire. I think is good value for $49.95. Having a book provided is also a nice additon and added value, it enables one to practice away from the computer. |

I have this set - I got a pre order from Paul and they are amazing - they look like they are expensive rings and they work very well. This is a killer routine that real wolrd performers will never leave home without. Paul performed this for Murray Hatfield and I backstage, about one foot away from our faces and it ROCKS!!!! if you do not buy this then you do not want to blow your audineces away. When you see the rings you will be totally shocked! Easy to use, easy to learn and easy to perform. ANd not Paul
did not aske me to write all of this, but this trick and props are that good that I had to pipe in. Quote: On Apr 23, 2015, Cole Gross wrote:

This is my first post and I've been performing bar and restaurant magic for 35 years. I'm suprised my first post is a review but I am so very happy with Merge, I had to say something! I can't believe Paul released this. This is a pro routine bar none with tons of thought and years of experience evident. The rings are high quality. The instructional booklet is clearly written with great photos and plenty of details. Paul could've stopped there but he includes a download video tutorial which is outstanding. He explains why THIS specific himber ring is key to the power of the effect. I was doing the necessary moves within minutes of reading the instructional booklet and via the tutorial. I'll wear this ring most of the time (it fits on my little finger not my ring finger). Paul shares how he transitions into Merge from his ring on string routine. This brings Merge into a logical presentation for the finale of a ring on string routine. Thanks Paul!!!!

Oh, one more thing... before I purchased Merge I emailed Paul with a few questions. I don't know Paul, I've never seen him perform -- nothing. I just watched the Merge demo and description -- and then reached out to him with an email. He responded via email almost immediately with a clear answer to my question. He even offered to Skype with me if I needed any face-to-face tutoring or advice! Wow... now that's great support!!!! Thanks Paul!

Thanks everybody for the kind words - I'm so glad so many are enjoying Merge. I was talking to Diamond Jim Tyler and he reminded me of his incredible routine Collateral. This is THE PERFECT routine to do prior to performing MERGE. I very highly recommend it.This would really make a killer close-up performance under any condition.
Dave I really appreciate your words on that short clip. It was filmed for a TV interview recently. Funny story was I had sent them the music I've used for the act for the past 20 plus years - however while driving to the actual TV studio I got a phone call from the producer saying they couldn't use my music. I ended up filming with my music so I could work to my music and afterwards had a friend compose original music for the TV performance. In some ways it was good because I now own the original music and can use it on TV or anywhere I like without copyright!
