Has anyone tried to resurface their Joe Lefler table? I am considering skinning it and applying a fresh felt covering. Any advice on this? Success or failure stories? Thanks,
Gregg

The carpeting material that is on the Lefler tables is from Italy, according to Joe. The closest material I have found that is close to it is car speaker material. We have a store here that sells if for a few dollars a yard.
It is most likely glued with white glue or contact glue. I never pulled mine back to check. It will be a tough job. If you pull it up, be careful not to pull any wood up, as then you have to fill with wood putty. If you can get it up, I would use a product like Goo-Gone to take the contact glue up. If it is white glue then regular paint remover will work more easily. If you have a heat gun, I would try to heat the contact cement up as you pull the material off. You will still have a lot of refinishing to do, as any lumps will show through anything bumps left behind when reapplying to the surface. Good luck and wear rubber gloves and maybe a chemical mask. |

Thanks Bill. I figured as much but was hoping someone would prove me wrong. You have confirmed my fears--ha. So I guess no "presto-change-o" on this one--just plain ol hard work. --Or maybe a new table. This one still works great (I have changed out the wheels), but the cloth is getting beaded and just doesn't look as sharp as I would like it to anymore. Over 1,000 parties in 3 years with it, so it's not Joe's fault. Don't know what I'd do without this great product.

I recommend a table wrap like the ones you can get from Tim Sonefelt.
http://www.timsonefelt.com/store_product......ackdrops You could also purchase a new table from Showtime Magic Products. Chris has made a lot of improvements to the tables. https://squareup.com/market/showtime-magic-products You may also be able to discuss with Chris at Showtime Magic about refinishing the table but that may be costly due to shipping it back and forth. Good Luck |

Greg, I work with a lot of glue and materials and know what you and Bill are talking about. I also have a Joe Lefler (I miss that guy) table. Here is an out of the box idea. Instead of removing the material, make a stylish curtain to drape around the table when you arrive at your gig. There are some great heavy, silky type materials that you can find at your fabric store. Your table fabric is Velcro friendly. Make a hemmed curtain to cover three sides of your table with "hook" tabs of Velcro sewn onto the curtain at key points. Get a close up mat or some other type of heavy material to place on top.
I use this set up for my at a case I use along side my Lefler table at all of my show. I hope this comes in time for you. This was the first time I saw you post. If you need any help contact me at www.pattricksmagic.com. I am not trying to sell you a mat:).
