I'd like to know too.
And how does it compare (effect and construction) with The Haunted Doll by Rogue & System 6 - Trick |

It's a cute idea of an age old principle. Certainly reasonably priced. The ad is somewhat misleading as it implies that the levitation can be done in the spectators hand. I am sure this is not the case. A real live performance would be nice to see.

Looks like a kids toy to me, I prefer something a bit more spooky looking .

Nothing Screams "Love", like a Gingerbread Man !
I'm with George, looks like something you can get at Toys-R-Us ...

I love my old voodoo doll. Same straw creepy man. Also love that most people give up on this effect. Always gets a fantastic reaction.

My 7 yr young daughter watched the vid.
She was all excited! I asked her if she liked this or my creepy doll... She like this better! So, it really depends on your audience.... For me, this could work great. I will take a closer look at The Magic Warehouse on my next visit there. mike |

I'm guessing a lot of children would like this better if they watched the trailer, especially if they thought it would stand up in their hand, or by itself. It's a nice video with a nice soundtrack, a cute child and a gingerbread man. And I'm actually impressed with how close they came without showing the gimmick (if it's the same as The Haunted Doll by Rogue & System 6) at around 0:52. Is there a name for that subtlety? Looks a bit like a RS but using the heel of your hand. Most of the shots look like the gimmick has been removed or even that they are using a doll that has never had a gimmick in it. Near the end, it looks like you might see the hole where they took the gimmick off. Unfortunately, I doubt the trailer has any bearing on how this actually works in the real world. Based on how thick the wood looks, I'm actually concerned that the gimmick would be more obvious than the Haunted Doll version (which I've had people examine and even try to put on their hand without finding the gimmick - not that I suggest that). |

We'll see if anyone from Penguin responds - I posted the questions about the misleading trailer here:

Sounds good. Thaks for sharing...
I did tell her that the Gingerbread woul dbe in my hand, as I ma the magician. She was cool with that. I agree, it is a deom, with music, etc. But I know I could use this for kids. They won't see the gimmick or suspect one. They are innocent, and enjoy the magic. At least that's my expierence. |

I can see this working beautifully with theatre setting and music. But close-up wise the classic voodoo doll would make a lot more sense to people.

Not really aaronish
Classic doll does not many any more sense on why it stands up as that has nothing to do with voodoo. I don't think Okito used it as voodoo. I ask all the time "what is this" and most don't know. Some say doll, some say man, some say vodoo doll. They are guessing. It is what you tell them it is. Sympathetic movement is only accepted since we tell them it is the way it is. Okito is far more exposed on that darn video channel. Ruins the fun .... So new versions always help. |

Review of Gingerbread Man by MagicLism
I bought the Gingerbread Man on EBay direct from MagicLism and the trick was shipped to me from Hong Kong (took about 2 weeks). When the package arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it contained substantially more than I expected from the product description. Specifically, I received a little Gingerbread Man gimmicked like an Okito doll, a second ungimmicked Gingerbread Man that looked just like the gimmicked one, and five large Gingerbread Man stickers. The gimmicked and ungimmicked Gingerbread Men are 3 1/4 inches tall, 3/8 inches thick, and very cute and colorful. They look like children's toys created to resemble Christmas cookies. They're made from lightweight foam rubber, but on the outside they're attractively painted with smooth enamel that looks durable. I own the Haunted Doll by Rogue, which is also based on the Okito doll principle. However, I've been disappointed in the Haunted Doll because, despite considerable practice, I've only rarely succeeded in getting it to stand upright. In contrast, I was able to make the gimmicked Gingerbread Man stand up in my hand on the first try. The Gingerbread Man is tall enough and thick enough that you might guess he weighs twenty times as much as the Haunted Doll. But in fact the Gingerbread Man is very light and rises easily. The Gingerbread Man came with an instruction sheet with photos. The instructions were clearly written but failed to explain the purpose of the ungimmicked Gingerbread Man or the stickers. Luckily, the sheet provided an internet link to an online video with better instructions. As explained in the video, the stickers can be put onto blank Bicycle playing card to create little pictures of the Gingerbread Man. At the beginning of the trick, the magician can magically pluck one of these pictures off a card and turn it into a real Gingerbread Man. Unfortunately, this part of the trick depends on a Snap Change that was not explained in the video. However, the illusion is good enough that I plan to look elsewhere to learn how to do a Snap Change. The video also explained the purpose of the ungimmicked Gingerbread Man. At the beginning of the trick, this ungimmicked duplicate is plucked off a card and handed to the spectator, not so much for inspection as to give the spectator a chance to admire its charm. After taking it back, the magician switches the ungimmicked Gingerbread Man for the gimmicked one, and then makes it stand up on his hand. The method for doing the switch as taught in the video is rudimentary but workable. Some magicians may prefer to use a subtler method. I should mention that the gimmicked Gingerbread Man cannot be examined. He has a tell-tale bulge at the back of his foot. It's invisible during performance but would probably be noticed during close inspection. I'm delighted with the Gingerbread Man and look forward to trying it out on children and adults. On a 1 to 5 scale, I give it 5 for the quality of the props, 5 for price (particularly since it contains unadvertised extras), 5 for practicality, and 3 for the instructions. Most importantly, I give it 10 for charm and attractiveness. Overall my rating is 5. |

The review above is accurate but I can not fully agree with the rating due to some issues.
First, I use Okito doll and it still is superior to this. I rarely have gotten GB to stand fully straight without making some hand cheats. You can even see on his explanation video that he is not getting it to rise as straight (85 degree ish) They say it is heavier so they moved the gimmick. I think this decision to move was a mistake. It does not hide the method as well. Even on the explanation video you can see the issue. THere is a noticeable PULL seen from the back and sides. I have done Okito close up an surrounded. Only once did someone point out they saw how it was working. But I would say this version shows much more and I am still trying to find a placement so I can still have it viewed on the sides. Maybe I will find that right spot but maybe I wont and I should not had to. I think the finish is off. One should know there are already knock offs on ebay. I ordered from MJM. When I looked at the dolls I noticed the backing stuck out from the main body, like it should have been trimmed flush but they did not. I wondered if it was just mine but in the explanation video , you can see the same construction. BTW I do have issues with the main explanations being a non protected URL. This means eventually this will be exposed. What a shame magicians of today don't think about secret keeping or even reminding customers to keep it under their hat. This is one reason so many kids just share on line. No one is teaching them and just about every video and product out there is to blame. Back to the review. The Okito doll I have had since the 80s or 90's does not "feel" any heavier and does not rip out. I also put it in their hands and they don't pick up on it. I think the straw helps distract. Gingerbread man is better than I thought but shorter gimmick and I had the method (not the gimmick) tear out. I cant say much more but I found the gimmick, maybe due to trying to hide, to be too short and "tearing out" so would not rise. Sure you can get this with an Okito but I just found it was much harder to get Gingerbread man sure set. You have no trick if you get get it set and then what? I think they could have make it lighter. Just based on how they make it with a a backing piece means they couldh have sculpted it more but I cant really go into detail. Extras- I am glad there is an extra doll. I might gimmick it to see if I cant get a better rise. However, there is no switch taught. In fact, for his demo he just sets it on the couch behind him . He should have performed it live since he is missing some beats that will make his idea not flow as well as he thinks without more delay. He says the girls like to handle the doll and say how cute it is. But honestly, I don't know how much, gimmicked or ungimmicked, I would let them handle as I don't know how long the paint will hold up on this type of material. Stickers- Nice little extra additions for the price but for some reason I felt they did not match the doll as well as they could have. Extra trick- The extra trick of popping him off the card is explained. It could work but he never demonstrates HOW one might get into position in a real world situation. All demos start with him set up which is not real world. The doll is a little wider than a poker size playing card so not sure if this is a good thing or bad. On the surface say it makes a smidgen more work for the performer . One should note he also mentions and demos how it would look doing a snap change vs his deck method BUT does not teach it or explains how to get into it . And again is gets rid of the card by putting it on the couch behind him saying to put it in your pocket. The actual trick will work if one keeps things moving. It does create a longer routine if you can work out the details but still is disjointed with the story. That is, he stuck with the same story of walking the sleeping doll and making it go back to sleep. No real story here. Pulling him from the card has no connection. The doll itself should hold up. I am not sure how well the paint will. I don't know why they choose the color they did. It is more of a yellow tinted than a brown like the cookie. This is why the stickers don't match as they are a light brown. I don't know if this is a change or if the video lighting changed but the color I have is not gingerbread brown. Also I have mixed feelings about the plain back. The Okito doll views well from any angle. But if I have people on sides and front, the side folks cant see the happy gingerbread man and only the front will enjoy it if it could stand up closer to 90 degree. Even in his video, she has it flipped so the face is up. If only showing people from the front. I guess it is fine. If only showing with people standing over, then you have to flip it and use the other hand. I can see there is a bit of anticipation to see the face again but maybe having it double sided would also work so that all can enjoy. I am on the fence but maybe because I am rarely getting it to stand as straight as my Okito. I would maybe give it 3.5-3.75 out of 5 .It is better than OK but not 100% finished and worked out. If they worked more on hiding the method when set, they would have gotten up to 4 or a little higher. But since there is a higher chance of the method being seen from some angles (even seen in the demo video)my scores have to stay lower. $30 is maybe a bit much even with the extra doll and stickers. Maybe it is more like $20-25 value |
