Seems like there is a real shortage of tarot boxes on the market -- if you don't want a Celtic knot or a pentagram, you are about out of luck. So here's a handmade box to hold my favorite Rider-Waite cards, entirely handmade of pine and poplar plywood. Of course, I could make these with any images.

Here's the back of the box. The fool is on the front, seeking knowledge, and the magician is his guide.

Inside, just enough room for the deck, wrapped in silk, as is customary.

The inside images are a meditation and love and obsession. By the way, been showing these to non magician friends, minus the gaffe, and no one wonders why there are pictures inside.

Ettteilla tarot box, to hold an entire deck. This box is made of solid oak. No craft wood or plywood.

Inside the Etteilla box. The gimmick is non locking and will switch several cards.

Good question. Is it a sw*tching device like your other boxes? If so, how many cards can be sw*tched at any one time?

Yes, same switch device. I'll post a picture later tonight in the crypt, but I've done six cards no problem, could probably do more. Check crypt later for details where we may speak more freely.

That's nice. I like it a lot. I make cigar box guitars and this have given me ideas.

I started out with cigar boxes and still use them for a variety of boxes. Some of the smaller ones work for tarot decks especially nicely. I made a box for a tobacco store owner and now get first pick of the litter, so to speak.

Cool, I find them quite hard to get in the UK. Its cheaper to get them send here from US. Since people began using them for craft, people began charging outrageous prices for them, almost 10 quid a throw!

Those are beautiful. Can you say where you get the basic box?

These boxes are entirely handmade out of poplar plywood and pine, or in the case of the ettealia box, oak. I use craft boxes for a lot of things, especially when size doesn't matter, but the standard tarot deck is an odd side, very hard to find a ready made box for, at least in my experience.
