What do you think Steve Harvey is thinking here? I can't tell if he buys into it or if he can't believe anyone else is. Either way he knows it's good television.

Disgusting. All in the name of money. I guess it's true that people will do anything for a buck.
At 1:14...you can see the woman sitting behind the lady standing up start laughing. She most certainly looks like a stooge. No real tears ever come out, and she only raises her hand when she sees that no one raises their hand. |

Nothing to do with readers, this is alleged mediumsip...
And it is heartbreakingly disgusting...

Perhaps these actually are best understood as in part techniques utilized by readers, though here are plied in the service of heartbreakingly disgusting alleged mediumship. I don't see a need to shy away from acknowledging the techniques in play. That doesn't mean that a reader employing these and related methods is necessarily treading the same territory. Thankfully notable differences can exist.

If the person on stage believes in their gift, and that it is outside of a normal persons skillset - then its nothing to do with cold reading...interpreting messages from the dead is different from using intuition and story telling skills (or whatever else)!
That's how I see it anyways 😊

Here's my favorite clip from a show about the fictional life of the very real Warwick Davis.

I despise these types of people. I honestly don't know how she looks herself in the mirror. I am sure the money makes it feel better.

The following video depicts what happens when someone doesn't buy into the claims of a Kiai Master's 'special powers'. The first half of this rather poor quality video features the Kiai Master demonstrating his 'powers' for a group of believers. The second half of the video shows what happens when he signs a contract to face against a real mixed martial arts(MMA) fighter who is apparently a non-believer.
My favorite part of the video was when the Kiai Master experiences a Marsha Brady moment (Oh my nose!) David

I think he bought it, it does sound plausible from a layman's POV. I find it so hard sometimes to believe that those people exist and are doing it knowingly, I really hope that was a stooge.
By the way keep the spoofs coming, these are really great, especially the one Steven posted.

Is there some rule that says in order to talk to the dead you must have gross fingernails? Couldn't even watch the clip, too focused on that.

So she correctly told the lady that she had whispered in her fathers ear after he had died......
What cold reading book did that come from?

The use of population stereotypes to elicit a response that will allow for further probes is common technique in CR. The "whispering in the departed loved one's ear" is a good example of the technique.
Despite what a some folks seem to think, there is a lot more to CR than Barnum statements and canned readings. |

I have no evidence either way, just one clip, same as you...
Popularity does not equate to sincerity... I would say the flowchart in her head would dictate how often it is said, though phrased differently from person to person...
