I read many posts on here about the latest and greatest book test effect but was wondering if anybody has tried Richard Osterlind's Poor Man's Book Test? Any book, any page and you read the spectator's mind on what word(s) they are thinking of. I recently brought this back into my shows and it absolutely kills. I am just curious if anybody else uses this because I am very impressed with the reactions this has caused. Its right on par with my PCT effect at the moment!!

Absolutely. The mentalist in my family routinely uses poor man as a follow-up to a traditional book test if someone challenges her to use a borrowed book.

Could easily be Richard's most under rated effect

Yes, it's a great book test. The bad side is you can only reveal the first word of a page. But for impromptu situation, it kills.

I don't see that this has any advantages over a Hoy book test or over Marc Paul's AAA book test.
If you know those, I'd suggest that you are already pretty well equipped already. Best, Atlas |

Were we discussing advantages or were we talking about options?

The OP was making a comment about how good he thought this effect was. I agree with him.
Tá sé ach cleas má dhéanann tú sé cuma mhaith ar cheann.

I actually prefer Poor Man to the Hoy book test because I don't have to force any page. I can just pick up any book and go for it! I also prefer having the helper think of the first word (or first few words) on the page because it makes the effect go quicker and you don't have to wait for them to pick a word they like. |

I haven't read this Booktest, thanks for making me aware. A lot of places I get to perform in often have huge library's and to be able to jazz and utilise as many different methods as possible has such an advantage

I agree with metamaster : I think it's better than the hoy book test because people can really choose any page they want. And, at the end of the selection, you can say one of the favourite richard's lines : "is it fair ?" Yes, it is
