I personally pay no attention as to whether someone is hypnotizable or not when it comes to therapy it makes no difference in the results. The OCD is a problem because of the secondary gain nothing to do with whether they are highly hypnotizable or not. If you ever got a chance to talk to Howie about his OCD you would probably find he has another half a dozen phobias and rituals he performs to alleviate anxiety. You also find it seems to get worse or better depending upon the circumstances. IE it gets worse when its in their advantage to get worse. It eases off once they get what they want out of a situation. OCD is an unconscious tool that most will never give up. On a masochistic level a lot of them seem to enjoy having the problem. I think Howie enjoys the attention he gets from it. And from putting himself in that space on the show would seem to confirm that if you ask me!

Not only did the whole act look fake to me, but so did the girl being hypnotized in the audience. First off, she seemed to be alone (which is kind of odd). Second, her reaction and the people's reaction next to her seemed so staged. And third, the camera shot seemed so planned.

I may be wrong, but this all looked pretty phony to me. And if Howie was just playing along.....didn't he just help a contestant? Is that allowed?

Okay, I'll stop now. After all....the show is all about entertainment and I do love it Smile

I watched it, and all I can say is poor guy. You could feel his humiliation! It was palpable. And Buble was a total a__hole, in my opinion".

Why because he wouldn't fake it for the guy?

Sorry but this is why you just don't do stops stuff like AGT. Yep he was on TV. How do you think that is working out for him?

I'm not a hypnotiist and don't claim to be, but please fill me in: When you said "he wouldn't fake it for the guy"... well, I'm in the dark, here. Is faking it a standard in hypnosis shows?

As far as how it's working out for him, he's probably trying to figure out how he can show his face again in front of friends and family. Probably trying to figure out how he can ever live down the shame and humiliation.

This is EXACTLY why I and others here have turned down this show for over 8 years, even with guarantees. This is not the platform for proper stage hypnosis. This is what happens when the street hypnosis/magic guys become cocky and overconfident only to be called out on their nonsense.

Does he think by just saying "put your head down and sleep" will hypnotize someone? Does he think anyone is believing it? No pre-conditioning, no induction, no regard for the subject, no regard for believability, no regard for stagecrat and theatrics. Nothing.

As its been stated here many times before, this is the problem with today's type of hypnosis. For some reason the only ones that seem to believe and buy this is the "hypnotist" themselves. This is an example of unbelievability of this type of hypnosis and this type of "quick" hypnosis (rapid induction, instant induction, etc.)

No one believed it, the audience, judges, and the two onstage helpers. Any hypnotist knows about picking proper volunteers. Trying to hypnotize anyone against their will is almost guaranteed failure. He got what he deserved, especially after such a cocky first performance that again, many didn't buy either. The sad thing is he hadn't a clue about this perception, which is one of the elementary rules of hypnosis - believability and credibility. He failed on both counts.

This is exactly what gives hypnosis a bad name, perpetuates the many common misperceptions about hypnosis, creates doubt and skepticism, and makes the legitaimate stage hypnotist have to deal with the aftermath.

Back up a second. You said the dude who didn't fall asleep was an a hole. I am asking why you claim that? Is he that because he didn't play along? What makes him such? The hypnotist couldn't do his job and that had nothing at all to do with anyone but him and the stupid choices he made.

I think it is a good thing. It shows more the limitations and it will weed out people and cause a purge of sorts. It is helpful.

The reason I said Buble was an ahole is that he acted like he was under, for what? Five or ten seconds? He let his head drop to his chest obviously pretending he had indeed been hypnotized, and it seems to me he was planinng all along to do what he did (raise his head up suddenly to say "Hey world. I'm wide awake! It was just an act all along because the hypnotist has failed!!" )

To me that was like playing a joke on the hypnotist and rubbing it in the guy's face," Only am a__ hole would do such a thing.

If he wasn't hypnotized, then why did he drop his head to his chest in the first place unless he was planning his little joke all along?

I'm sure I must be missing something key, here. Somebody please tell me what it is.

He was doing what he was told thinking it would lead to hypnosis. It didn't.

Ok. That's where I must have missed it. I didn't hear any words spoken to him. I thought the guy just seemingly gestured over him and his head dropped. My mistake.

I am stunned that a hypnotist would think that an instant induction, against a forced volunteer, with no build up, could possibly work. From the start he hadn't a hope and set himself up for inevitable failure. Surely he knows more than that?

Does anyone know much about the guy? Does he do regular shows?

Do instant inductions really, actually work? For a totally uninitiated novice like me, such a thing seems like an utter impossibility.
