Hi,
I was especially looking foreward to this new "Devils Library" addition. I was entertaining the Idea that "The Devils Library" could be something I would want to collect and I wanted to see where it was heading. This looks outstandingly good! I am sure this is a great effect, but you unfortunately lost me with it. I am not a professional and everything in this price range is just not managable for me, which makes me sad. Now I am looking forward to Reviews! |

I would just like to ad my comment here.
I am fantastically excited about this release. 'Louis' (Mark to me!) came to me some time ago with this idea, I thought it was fantastic then, and now I have the final thing in my hands, I think it it a real treasure now. I would like to thank Mark for his endless patience with me too - I can be a hard task master and very particular about what we put out on the Moon. Over the years I have helped many, but few make it to the finishing line. Mak's resilience is to be admired. I always think that a product should not be released until it is well matured in the cask; thought through, potential fully explored, refined and fully playtested. Also, for me the props need to be of a standard you would expect from the Moon - and this is certainly the case here. Alchemy Moon prides itself on not producing 'bottom draw' effects. I buy too many of these, and have no intention of being a vendor for stuff that is not well thought out and *workable* - I am sure I speak for all the magic vendors here on spooky - outside of this - well, you take chances. 'The Story of Joseph Heart' is a prequel to both 'The Sailors Purse' and 'Death in the Family' - so with this you have a whole themed show. It was intended to be a mid-priced addition to the Devil's Library range. So, Malakim, you can blame me for the thing evolving beyond this. As it was developing I am guilty of becoming a little selfish. I thought this had so much potential, and I wanted it to look totally authentic - something that could *genuinely* have been found in an old tavern and date back to the age of piracy and smuggling. So it is a complex and very well made piece. Most Alchemy Moon customers are working professionals and anything short of this would not be performable in the real world. Unfortunately, authenticity comes with it's own price tag. My advice here, it to choose wisely and get the best quality props you can. A few high quality items will serve you far better than a rarely opened draw full of stuff that you cannot actually work with. So what do we have here? First of all we have a wonderful piece of storytelling magic with a authentic props. The fact that it can be performed *just* as story telling really suits my own preferences. However, this is underpinned with a very clever multi-phased magic routine. What is more and in the tradition of 'The Sailors Purse', more advanced users have a wonderful springboard for guided visualisation and other, deeper techniques. Obviously, I fully endorse this piece and I am more than a little proud to have it on the Moon. A must-have for any serious collector and for performers who like to spin a good, creepy yarn. This is Mark's first piece, which is something that is important on two counts. First of all, I would be pretty *** proud to have produced a piece of this standard and complexity first time around. Secondly, I really hope that Mark gets some positive feedback from the community on this. I remember well the excitement of my first release, how I eagerly awaited those comments to come in. Had they not, Alchemy Moon would not exist now and I would not be writing this. I know the guys here will want to support Mark and encourage this talented person into the rank of the creators here. Full details are on the Moon and in the newsletter.... A big thanks and 'Well Done!' to Mark from me and all on the Moon.
The Moon is now to be found in the constellation of Gemini:

I would 1st like to say a BIG thank you to Mark as he kept in contact with me as things progressed being these are time consuming items to create up to the fast shipping from across the pond to the states here. I have been side tracked with my customers work & my personal home remodel & have not had time to chime in on this, but I received my awesome #13 DLV2 couple weeks ago & love it ! She sites next to my elite Sailors purse box & a extremely limited (6 I believe only released ) Devil's Triangle box & they look great all together ! The 3 of them should make a great evening old salty sailor's story telling evening !!!!
The box itself & all props inside are very well done ! Mark definitely spent time on these from the making of the box & the other items & the aging they received. The e manual is well written & full of great story telling stuff & love the extra ideas of using the knuckle bones (domino's) & the "witch chips" for fortune telling as well ! The only thing I did was use a real Escudo piece of 8 I have as I collect all things pirate & have numerous silver 2,4 & 8 1600-1700's Reales & a couple Escudo's. The Spanish replica coin that Mark includes is more than fine, but I thought since I have real ones I'd take it a tad more realistic which would further cement his props & story. I am happy that Chris helped Mark to work this thru with Sailors Purse & DITF as well as endorse & make this available thru AM. & as Chris has said it is a great item to just present as a storyline by itself or take it further. The box & props easily look to be believable for that time period & the back story is real enough with a few small changes to work with this piece. A brilliant release by Mark & I look towards Marks future creative releases !! Mark has created an extremely creative story telling piece & prop set - an item that perhaps Blackbeard himself would have sought after.......Arghhhh For those lucky enough to get in on the 1st & 2nd batch this is a prized keeper, for anyone hoping that Mark makes more, jump on one as I believe these are the elite sets & soon may not be lucky enough to get the cool extras that are presently included...... IMO a well priced effect / props set that definitely will be on my prized top & center display shelf & not in a bottom drawer & the only dust I will allow it to gather is for further aging process only !! I can't wait for things to cool down in a few months so I can settle in & play with my awesomely prized DLV2 !! A personal Thank you again to Mark for creating this |

I forgot something also important that I did not mention in my last post review, the Moonskin wrap - most awesome as always ! I love the authentic looking bones Mark created wrapped up in the map & the vessel sight cards, etc, all nestled within the Moonskin wrap & the neat looking symbols embossed on it !
Mark did a great job with researching these items to recreate them in a realistic manner as props !! |

This is available again on AM. I seriously consider buying it but would like to read more reviews. Anybody included it in the performance yet?

I would also be interested in a review of this it seems like worthy storytelling magic that doesn't come with a battery thankfully. I just checked the site and the underground where they have started what looks to be a fair review format. Will see if that continues! Because you can't trust this place for reviews.

Recently purchased this, had looked at in September & liked the premise & the look of the props, however did'nt really want the box & some of the extra items to extend the routine. When the Pro Edition became available took the plunge & very pleased I did..! Can't comment on the performance yet as it will be next month with couple of parlour shows planned before I get to perform " Story of Joseph Harte" but as far as the props concerned they are excellent & wonderful script/story..
The service from Mark was also excellent. I'm not a professional performer but in my humble opinion this a great routine & really looking forward to perform it..! |
