I always did wonder who would win if these two came down to a battle....
Copperfield admits in a recent tweet "My rap skills are no match for Houdini" What do you think? http://youtu.be/rVTwgQ76l-g Sorry if it's already been posted. I didn't see it. A bit of language NSF. Enjoy!

I believe David Copperfield was referring to, he is not a conversationalist, which is very apparent from his many talk show appearances. Rap, meaning to "talk informally: to have an informal talk or discussion".
Houdini, was a salesman, and the worlds best promoter to fill the his theater shows. Evidenced by after all these years his name is still related to magic. Actually, he was more of an escape artist, then a magician. I do believe, if we ever seen a live show of Houdini, we all would be very disappointed. The magicians from the Vaudeville days were simply people looking to make a living in those tough times. It was more out of survival, then a desire to entertain. Of course, Houdini did go much further then most vaudeville magicians, and promoted his own one man show. Still, theaters were simply large rooms with chairs, bad sounding music, poor lighting, and no microphones. Audiences were very small compared to days thousand seat theaters, huge auditoriums. It was another time altogether. People were very different, uneducated, and would believe that he was really in danger during his escapes. Magic secrets were not available to anyone, and only passed from person to person. Radio was in it infancy and not everyone could afford one. Five cents to go see a theater show was more for the well to do then the average person. Thus his promotional escapes drew crowds of people to witness what they could not afford to go see in a theater. I say there is just no comparison, he was only making a comment and it was taken out of context, as is popular today. If you have not noticed, most men are not conversationalist, it is our nature. |

I think he is referring to rap, as in rap music, as in "a music genre consisting of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted." The video in question Mr. Copperfield is referring to and is posted above is indeed a "rap" music battle. While you make some very good and interesting points, I think you may have taken the entire thread out of context. Watch the video and enjoy!
