If someone asks me to go to a musical composed by Stephen Sondheim, I run for cover. Just drains all the energy from me.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I've never really cared all that much for movie musicals, and not sure why. However, I do like a couple of the Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers ones.

Here's a video of me as a youth, after hearing "Send In the Clowns" on the radio for the 100,000th time:

Anybody see the anmated musical "Rock and Rule?" Debbie Harry and Robin Zander were the lead singers. The voice actors were good too. Sadly the plot was lacking. I still liked it though.

I agree that songs can be overplayed. I've heard "Memories" so many times, I thought I was immune to it. Then I saw in in context watching the video and as the "Glamor Cat" sang about her nightly struggle with the past, I'm not ashamed to say I snuffled.

Showboat (1951) IMO William Warfields Ol' Man River is the best ever. |

Jesus Christ Superstar tops my list. I've never gotten tired of it, and it still affects me.
