I can never understand women who fall for convicted criminals, particularly those who are incarcerated for violent crimes like murder. They will fall for the most heinous, depraved men. Joyce Mitchell has just been charged with helping two convicted murderers escape. Women still are enamored by Charles Manson. A woman married imprisoned Manson murder cohort Tex Watson. women fell in love with such monsters as Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, and the Menendez Brothers. What's going on? Is it something in the female DNA? Is it attention-seeking behavior? Is it a "safe" way to feel the thrill of being with a "bad boy"? I am stumped by this human stupidity.

The sad truth is that there are many lonely people in our world--both men and women. It often makes them vulnerable. It's heartbreaking.

I agree, it is heartbreaking, but I still question what is behind it. There are plenty of vulnerable people and they don't respond in that manner.

Women normally fall for criminals as it makes them feel alive. Money power etc are attractive things. Attraction to convicted criminals the likes of which you mention however is a mystery to me.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

When I was living in Alabama, there was a front page case involving a slippery eel, cop killer named Mario Centobie. One of his two prison escapes was aided by jail guard Donna Hawkins, who Obi-Wan Centobie had charmed.
He was ultimately executed, but she only got 18 months. Her sentence was considered an insult. http://www.clarkprosecutor.org/html/death/US/centobie962.htm

Often it is for some kind of fame or money they think they will make from it:

Sometimes liberals fall for them to.

I don't think it follows a political ideology. It's just plain weird. I also am not sure that I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment, Magnus (but I agree that is part of it); for example, I believe the Mitchell woman is married.

She is married, and there was an alleged plot to kill her husband (who also works at the prison) before the 3 of them fled. She backed out at the last min. Surprisingly, after all this was revealed and she was incarcerated, her husband showed up and visited with her for an hour the other day.

This can also be looked at as a wake up call to us men. Do we give our lady enough attention, time, and love. While incarcerated they have nothing but time to plot how to do whatever....

Have there been publicized cases with the sexes of the parties reversed?

I can't recall any. That's not to say it doesn't happen, but I would assume it's far less often or we would hear about them more.
Why are no women chiming in? I would love to hear their take. Mary? Destiny? Laurie? |

I'm not sure if it is still on TV, but there was a reality show (last year I think) called Prison Wives? A couple of them never met their "husbands" until they were already inside and some were already married when the husband went away.

I've often wondered about this myself, because I'm rather unforgiving myself of violent crimes.
I think Poof-Daddy is correct about some cases, they're after fame, money, notoriety... I think the loneliness angle is important also - people who feel unappreciated or perhaps someone who no one has taken much notice of for years since she got a bit older, put on a bit of weight, stopped being so concerned with her hair and make-up etc and now suddenly some man makes her the centre of his universe and thinks she's the cleverest, most gorgeous thing on legs and can't understand why no one else sees it - easy to fall for. Prisoners become good at scamming, good at telling people what they want to hear and even good at using an impressive vocabulary - though they usually use it incorrectly - but how many people would know that these days? - they just hear big words spoken confidently and are impressed. |
