Hello,
So I've been hearing a lot about Mr. Smith's material lately and on the surface it seems that it may offer some valuable information to my material. I'm a working professional, so it's ideal to spend my time learning wisely and not waste it on pipedream and "the newest thing." With that said, I have a few questions: 1) On a general review standpoint, as a first-timer to Phill's work, would it be preferable to spend less on the Penguin Lecture, or spend twice the amount on Yokai? 2) Is Yokai/Penguin Lecture material adaptable to stage or mainly close-up? 3) What is the scale on the Quinta Principle? I know it requires physical objects, that's perfect for me, but can it replace Equivoque on scale? Example, I can equivoque 1 object out of a hundred. Can Quinta offer that same condition and still remain a viable alternative to Equivoque? 4) Is anyone selling their copy of Yokai, lol? ||sean ||

I watched the lecture and have had a little bit of back and forth with Phil. I would say his stuff, from what I've seen, is very practical. I always recomend the Penguin lecture, is one is aviable. They give you a sampling of the performers work and thinking. So...
1. I think the Penguin lecture is a safe bet, if only because it is like a greatest hits album. Find what you like, then go and get the specific products that support those ideas. 2. I can only speak for the Penguin material, but it was a mix of both. Many of the ideas could easily be presented in either context. 3. Quinta has a lot of possibility, and is one of those things you'll find yourself testing because it is very nifty. Personally, I'd use it with Equivoque, because I feel like set up correctly, they are more powerful together. That being said Qunita is very cool, and something to have in the arsenal for sure. You can use Quinta to do things on the fly, in a way that would be exceedingly difficult with Equivoque. Hope that helps. |

Hi, thanks for the questions: from the horses mouth:
1: The Yokai ebook costs $2 more than the lecture. The lecture was fun and I covered a bunch of stuff, Yokai is more in depth and the theory in there is far more deeply explored. There's also Mitox, Mokele, and Quinta ebooks at the same price. 2: Both contain a mixture: the lecture has a full close up set and a short cabaret / stand-up set both taught in their entirety. Yokai is a mix of both. 3: Quinta can control a spectators' choice to one item from five in a single phase. No physical items are required, in the Penguin lecture I explain The Universal, an approach that lets you force literally anything, and the example given is from an impromptu skype conversation in which I forced, on request, a type of landscape (?). You can force literally anything, no matter how abstract, propless. 4: Yes: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/5706 Phill
