I also agree with Mindpro and as I have said many times before you must not only pick a relevant topic you must become and expert on this subject you must know it in and out.
the school show programs I offer are on subjects that I have studied and talked to the experts about and then created the programs. sure my lastest show that has toured america is a bit more unique to me as the show revolves around my deafness but I still had to study deaf history and culture and come up with the proper points to tie the show together. the biggest issue I have seen is some magicians just throw out a few fluff statements and a trick or over think the whole thing and offer too much info. there is a balance that needs to be learned and that comes with trial and error and lots of real world experience. it takes time so don't rush it. pick the topic and learn it well. then script the show. have fun sam

I've taken away a lot from you guys, I appreciate it. My next step is to get the book from Doig Scheer and work from there. Keeping all this in mind.

For Montgomery County, Maryland Public Schools there is an involved audition process. All entertainers wishing to perform in the schools must audition during the summer months at a Performing Arts Showcase.
If the act or group is approved, there is a $10.00 fee to be included in the catalog of approved acts: -----quote----- What is the audition process? The Superintendent's Committee was designed to screen and approve performing companies or individuals who wish to make presentations in the schools. The presentation must be auditioned. If approved by the Superintendent's Committee, the program will be listed in the Performing Arts Catalogue for a $10 fee. The individual or company will also be invited to participate in the Cultural Arts Showcases. -----unquote----- Retrieved from http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curri......howcase/ ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Yes, educational content is very important in schools. However, I do offer a 'Just for Fun' show as one of my 7 assembly choices and it is perhaps my 3rd or 4th best seller! This show is especially popular at the end of the school year. Sometimes they just want to reward the children for good behavior.

Magic Podcasts on School Shows – Compiled by Donald Dunphy - July 2015:
http://www.magicianbusiness.com/educational-magic/ (Doug Scheer) http://www.magicianbusiness.com/marketing-school-shows/ (Joe Romano) http://www.magicianbusiness.com/ken-scott/ (Ken Scott) http://www.magicianbusiness.com/ep-44-fu......-kaplan/ (John Kaplan) http://successfulperformercast.com/dougscheer/ (Doug Scheer) http://successfulperformercast.com/johnkaplan/ (John Kaplan) http://successfulperformercast.com/johnabrams/ (John Abrams) http://successfulperformercast.com/peteellison/ (Pete Ellison) Note - I haven't listened to all of these podcasts, but I've listened to a few. For example, I'm not 100% sure that Ken Scott talks about his school shows during his interview, because I haven't listened to that one. But I know that John Abrams talks about his school shows during his interview, because I've listened to that one. - Donald P.S. Ken Northridge also did a podcast for the Magic Bistro at one time, on his school shows. I downloaded it when it was available from the Magic Bistro. But that site is no longer online at this time. I'm not sure if the (former) Magic Bistro podcasts are now available as a part of James Munton's "Zero to Booked Solid" course or not. Maybe Ken Northridge or James Munton could let us know about that.

Ken is correct many schools will book a fun show but usually at the end of the year as he mentioned.
however educational school assemblies are popular but schools are much more picky today then ever before. Donald- I so wish these podcasts had transcripts too!!

I'm pretty sure the Bistro podcasts are no longer available, but thank you Donald for the above listing!
