Hi all,
My name is Tristan, 22 and from Australia My first time seeing a stage hypnotist left me amazed and not being able to understand it naturally meant I had to learn more about it. Safe to say I'm hooked and cannot get enough Ideally what I'm asking in this post is some pointers or help because my stage hypnosis journey has led me to people like "Derren Brown" who are also mentalists or operate the context that stage hypnosis is also a form of mentalism. If I want to become a mentalist or dive into the knowledge that is Mentalism l. where should I start what books should I read. 2. All I find when I research online is "Mental Magic Tricks" which I understand is part of mentalism however Card and coin tricks are not really my interest. Hypnosis keyed my interest because it is prop free. Or is mental magic the stepping stone you must progress to learn the basics? Ie walk before you can run. my goal is to learn mind bending mentalism routines to help build on the belief and expectation aspects and develop skills as a hypnotist. |

Books:
Annemann’s Practical Mental Effects: The book may be old but then routines still play well today as they did then. Here is a list of recommendations from Bob Cassidy a expert on the subject: http://www.lybrary.com/the-thirtynine-st......-10.html Magically Aus |

Tristain14,
13 steps and annemanss practical Mental effects are the 2 things you will hear the most when talking about starting mentalism. I would also like to say Richard Osterlind has many many DVD's including his take on Annemanns mental effects over I believe 6 dvd. He also has many series of DVD's like easy to master mental miracles.
Magic is not to fool...but allows you to believe!

Thanks for the personal replies. Sorry I realised soon after posting this thread it came across a bit "spoon feed me". Ive looked a bit harder and there are hundreds of posts like this already. A common trap I suppose we all start somewhere.
I still wanted to make a post to introduce myself instead of joining and then just lurking through posts. My goals are a bit different than to simply entertain like the best magicians do. Its the whole aspect of how our minds work that interests me the most. Magicians and mentalists understand this better then most and live life with advantage. our society is completely based around training on how to use our conscious mind yet its controlled by the subconscious. Techniques I've learnt from hypnosis have changed the way I approach people and caused me to look at life's interactions from a new angle. |

Tristan14, welcome to the Café! Corinda and Annemann are important. What I recommend is studying the work of Bob Cassidy! After doing a lot of research, I find his works to be unmatched! After you get Corinda, I recommend you get this eBook:
http://marketplaceofthemind.com/products/resudr/ And... http://www.lybrary.com/fundamentals-p-562.html Those two were my intro to Mentalism! He has a TON of stuff, but I recommend you start with those. You could spend a LOT more money and not get the amount of value you find in just those books! Bob Cassidy is here in the Café. He has NO problem helping a new guy! You should see his performances! YouTube has quite a few! Let us know, OK? Doug |
