Hey guys,
"The Creeps" is a version of the haunted matchbox where the matchbox draw mysteriously opens. Ben's version however is completely examinable and uses no threads. A few years ago Hank Lee carried this item. However it is no longer available. I read the other day that this was also published in one of Ben's older books "Mad Fax and Other Mysteries". Can anyone comment on this effect. Or maybe Mr Harris can tell us if it will soon be re-released. It sounds very cool. |

Hi Guys,
CREEPS does appear in Mad Fax. The effect is that a matchbox is placed on the spectators palm and slowly opens upon command. It looks really creepy. I use it to reveal a chosen card folded inside the box. It is entirely self-contained and examinable. The secret is the use of an elastic band in a very weird (and I think, quite clever) arrangement. This arrangement allows the box to remain closed on the table. Yet, when you place it on the spectator's palm, the mechanism is activated and the box SLOWLY opens. I may release it again. It can be quite tricky to learn from the printed instructions unless you have a set-up box in front of you. (If you set it up incorrectly, the drawer can shoot across the room). Hope this helps. Cheers Ben

I've got Mad Fax. And I didn't find it all difficult to learn The Creeps from the printed instructions, Ben.

Dave,
That's cool. You're a switched-on guy. Cheers mate Ben

I'm the least un-switched-on guy that there is, Ben.
I fact, I'm pretty sure that my "on" switch was disabled decades ago. But thanks for the compliment, Dave

The only problems with Creeps is that it is not angle proof. I guessed at the method before puchasing it. I hoped it was going to be something else. Nevertheless, it's a decent item with a great card routine provided.

Did'nt Mr. Harris come out with "Creeps2" recently?I think I saw "Creeps 2" on Hocus Pocus in the last couple of months or so.

Greetings,
As a closet Ben Harris and Barry Manilow fan, let me chime in with my opinion of both Creeps and Creeps part Deux. Both are very workable and have a strong impact on a close-up audience. Watch your shoulder angles and all is well. Though the effects do not immediately reset, reseting is quick and they still qualify for walk-around. Creeps 2 offers incremental improvements on the original method. Same secret whangdoodle, slightly different configuration. The clean up is better and the initial display is better. Arguably, even the angles are improved. Unfortunately, Creeps 2 didn't come with a sample empty matchbox and necessary secret thing. You'll have to forage to find materials that are right for you. Apparently shipping matches was verboten in this "War on Terr", but an empty matchbox would have been nice - along with a properly paired secret thingymajig. BTW, the proper correspondece of matchbox to whatchamacallit means the effect isn't entirely impromptu. However, with a little creativity and some basic boy scout or nautical know-how, you can use materials from just about anywhere. All in all, I give it 4 hexes out of 5. Sincerely, Sam Haine

I got the Creeps V2.
Its neat but not great. Its fun to play with to try to get it to work (which isn't easy). The set-up is easy, it just isn't easy to get it to work effectively. It could be just me not able to find the right box. Fun idea, but not for me. |

Also, Creeps V2 does come with the secret stuff you need, just not the matchbox.

Interesting, my C2 didn't come with the arcanum or matchbox. Probably creeped out the package...
