If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

It was great hosting the tournament. Play was generally good and the international fans were great.
I run my sideshow in the summer and the American families were a real treat. They were fun-loving and always game for something new. The Europeans, I found, were polite but too cautious to give me a dollar. Congratulations to USA--clearly the class of the tournament.

Great tournament, and fantastic accomplishment by the USA girls. I watched many of the games on TV and thoroughly enjoyed most of them.
The men's national team should take some notes! The US Women played with confidence, commitment, selfless teamwork, and incredible work rate. And that goal by Carli Lloyd from the halfway line was spectacular! The England team also ended a 20-game hoodoo by finally beating Germany and finishing third. |

It is not very often you get a run like the USA had in the first half...particularly against a team as expert as the Japanese!
The poor Japanese goalie was inconsolable after the game - nobody likes to let in 5 goals - but the only one I remember assigning any kind of blame to her was the 54-yard shot. She was far out from her line...but then she also had the sun in her eyes (the USA won the coin toss and chose to give the Japanese the end of the field that would put the sun in their eyes). She still made a great effort, and deflected the ball a little...just not enough. Two of the shots that were from close range went right between the legs of Japanese players!
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".
