Café members,
I am learning how to bottom deal (recently purchased Foundations), and the Gene Maze BD caught my eye when it was mentioned. I looked into it and have had the privilege to read about this BD. I have been practicing for about 2 months now and started to wonder about the rocking motion involved in this deal. From what I've read many people frown upon a rocking motion because it's a tell, but Gene Maze BD is highly praised (and yes I know there are many deals covered in the book). I am wondering why is this the case for this version? -m |

Mch64961,
When you normally deal cards your hands probably move. Try to practice your bottom deal with this same type of movement. I don't think the movement of your hands will be the biggest problem. My guess is that your fingers of the deck hand will move down slightly as the card is dealt. This is a tell that many people have when using the bottom deal. It can be eliminated. In my case I leave my fingers straight which helps eliminate a finger flash. Steve |

I assume it is rocking motions with one's hands and not with one's body while deaing. This might be a good one for tommy to tackle. It is my understanding he is good with rocking motions, but cannot verify that. |

I think the rocking motion with the body is just in the Cruise-Hoffman Blackjack deal, but that's only useful for foiling card counters. As for rocking motion when you're bottom dealing, if you make that motion when you do a regular take, then make the same motion when you take from the bottom. Do not do what Gene Maze did and change the entire position of your hand wrist and body relative to the table depending on what deal you are going to demonstrate in your gambling expose (search for the Youtube footage of him dealing seconds and bottoms, you'll see what I mean).
That said, Mr. Ehlers handles cards well and you should heed his advice and buy his video because he teaches well too.
Mr. Quackenbush believes that there is no such thing as a good magic trick.
