I purchased this not because I thought I'd really use it. But because I figured it would be a super cool 007 style gimmick. And sure enough it is. In fact it's even more creative than I thought it would be. Much more fascinating than a simple trap door. So huge kudos to the creator for such inventive thinking. Does it work? Yes it does. A little knacky, a little loud but it definitely works. Essentially it looks like the old lapping switch but with the box there's no need to lap. Will I use this in the real world? Nope. Anybody know how this compares to the flavor of the month gimmick from magic live 2009 known as E-case from Mark Mason? Literally the talk of the magic industry for two weeks. Then radio silence. We are like children. $150+ at JB magic. $37 at Penguin. Hmmm...

When people say this is loud, do they mean unusable loud or would average restaurant noise cover it? Thanks.

I think in most restaurant environment people who don't know what to expect won't be able to hear it.

The sound would probably cover it. But as they said on wpr probably not a great option for table hopping. It's like resetting a sensitive mouse trap.

I agree with Platt. Very ingenious device, by the sounds of it, but can't imagine ever using it in the real world.

Mark has given a fair review on this product. I believe the device can be utilized for ditching small objects that fit into the secret compartment. Although the device be used for magical effects such as transformation and restoration, as seen in the trailer, I think it is best served as a "hold-out" device in card and coin magic for switching a folded card secretly, or ditching an extra coin after the performance, because the attention shouldn't be drawn to the card box when magic happens.
The plot of the Card Prediction effect in the trailer has some similarities to Jay Sankey's Mercurial Prediction (aka Paperclipped), although both achieve the same end result using different methods. It is also worth mentioning that Jay Sankey's method is ungimmicked. However, this does not diminish the value of the FROGY device because it is a great utility device which seemed well suited for multi-purpose magical effects. Another thing that I'd like to point out is that the Card Prediction effect can be made more deceptive, if we pay attention to the minute detail of the desired effect and choreograph the routine meticulously to eliminate presentation flaws, such as the initial orientation of the folded card when placed on top of the card box, and the final orientation of the folded card when the magician picks it up to unfold. |

A couple of fun half uses of this gimmick. Using just half the gimmick is far easier and far more practical than using the whole deal. For me anyway. Really loving this.
You can imagine all the uses for coins. In context, you'd set the coins aside, perform a card trick, and then come back to the coins. https://vimeo.com/150182938 https://vimeo.com/150185836
