Hi people.
Somebody know if something magical about Louis Wain already exists? I was wandering around my books when I stumbled on an old book about Louis Wain. For those who don't know about him, I can say that is a very interesting charachter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Wain The story in brief is as follows, Wain was an artist, began his career drawing landscapes of countryside and animals, with a fairly traditional style. At one point he began to draw cats. As time goes cats became anthropomorphic, then they began to walk on two legs, then wore clothes. Time passed and the facial expressions of the cats were increasingly exaggerated until it becomes disturbing. Then cats began more and more hallucinatory, with strong, bright and contrasting colors, broken shapes, disgregated expressions. At this point, the cats appeared to be the explosions of a mind shattered in pieces ... Wain's cats were accompanying their author in an inevitable descent into schizophrenia ... Lots of lots of lots of ideas may be developed on Wain story. Just look at the change of the style of his drawings as his mind became more and more unstable, the progressive descent into madness witnessed by the six figures displayed in the wiki article.... http://www.cerebromente.org.br/gallery/g......g1-a.htm |

Nice! I'm a little familiar with Louis Wain due to the popularity of his work on a certain image board which should probably remain nameless for numerous reasons... They show up in the stoner threads a lot.
Anyway, I love his work. It's that nifty marriage of cool combined with nightmare fuel (at least the later stuff) that makes it perfect inspiration to conjurers of a certain inclination. For additional inspiration, try a search with the phrase "Louis Wain creepy pasta." |

Interesting idea! I just finished a Wain box for the non magic market, but never thought of incorporating the fascinating story of this Van Gogh of cat artists into a magical presentation. Here's a Louis Wain switch box, showing the various stages o his art.

Inside, I went with a more muted background image, but still wain of cats doing crazy things. I could of course go with full color inside as well. What do you all think?
Thanks for looking, Marc Click here to view attached image. |

Very nifty... And a little unsettling (I have a sensitive "uncanny valley" response.)
