I picked this up a week or two ago based on Xiquals excitement. I know that he knows his stuff and when I asked my wife
what trick she would like to see from me her response was a "double floating coin". So there IS something about floating multiple objects. The video is a great value for the amount of information that you can cull from this. The video quality suffers a bit from the lack of studio lighting and there are times when even during the explanation phases the method is practically invisible. There are also some moves and techniques that I felt could've used some more time or detail spent on them...That being said this is one of the best downloads I've ever bought. There is a single tip here that eliminates many of the issues that I've had with breakage in the past. Seriously...One little tip that's going to change a lot of how I think about this type of work. I also got re-introduced to the hummer card after watching Chris Randall's Penguin lecture but no matter how many times I watched it, I wasn't able to do the around the body moves until I spent some time with this download. Now I totally can and am very thrilled by it. I've been enjoying practicing this great effect again and learning to combo new moves together. There is a ton of info here and the video will require multiple watchings as you practice your routine and then decide to go back to the video and learn another move from one of Leon's graceful routines. He's taken what everyone of us knows in their heart and executed on it. Pick something. Make it your own. Do it until you're the Best.

Audio and lighting issues aside, I thought the same as everyone else. A lot of great info is provided. The highlights for me were the vertical card stuff, the spin off the top of the deck to get into the floating, the crazy ass double floating card stuff that is going to take some dedication for the hardcor thread worker I feel and, of course, the caps and cup thing which feels very magical and organic (if a bit lengthy and a touch of "guilding the lily" by the end).
I was curious about proper crediting and there is a link at the end for the website where credits are said to live but it isn't working as of yet. To reiterate what others have said, it's worth the price so take a look.

Title: The Floating Card Trick
Artist: Leon Mjolnir Producers: Leon Mjolnir Link: http://www.magicshop.co.uk/product_info.......d=146494 Retail Price: $14.99 USD Learning Difficulty: Easy to Moderate Length of Video: 54 Minutes (approx) Notes: Download Only. Some additional items will be required in order to practice/perform. The Floating Card isn’t a new trick in magic. It’s so commercialized that it’s hard to walk into a toy or novelty store these days without seeing a “UFO/ Hover Card” demo playing on some display screen in the store. Since it’s been so over marketed I think a lot of people tend to forget just how magical seeing a card expertly levitated can be. Who needs David Copperfield when you can just about do the same thing with a simple deck of cards? Enter Leon. Leon Mjolnir has been performing magic for the past two decades… which must mean he’s a time lord or something because the kid looks like he’s in his early twenties as is. In Leon’s new download he teaches the basic floating card trick but then he elevates it to a new level with some artful displays that are sure to leave your audiences gasping in awe. One of the nice things about this download is just how low tech it really is. You don’t need to purchase expensive name brand magicians props to do any of the things he teaches. Everything he does is with some common items that you can purchase at just about any craft or fabric store. So you really do get more bang for your buck. If you’ve never worked with IT before this is a good video to start with. Leon shows you how to set up your IT, how to wear it, and how to carry it around with you. This has a very DIY feel to it, which I know a lot of magicians tend to prefer now days. The moves Leon teaches are very practical and everything comes from a working magicians repertoire. These are the kind of techniques you can rely on when you’re out strolling, table hopping, hanging out on the street, or trying to amaze your friends at the next party you go to. There’s nothing in here that isn’t tried, tested, and proven to work. The moves Leon teaches are pretty darn cool too. His Off The Top of the Deck Spin, Figure Eight Hoop Spin, and Double Floating Card spin are just visual eye candy. His Kick Spin is a very useful technique to get into a lot of these moves too. If you’ve never worked with IT before Leon teaches you how to toss and catch the card as well as how to stick and unstick the “special stuff” too. As an extra added bonus Leon also teaches the PK Pen routine as well as his hoping beer cap routine which is really useful for bar magicians. The only downside to the download is that the sound seems to be a little quiet. I had to plug in external speakers on my laptop to hear everything okay, and the video is a little dark and gritty. So overall what did I think of Leon’s “The Floating Card Trick?” With so many products on the market today teaching IT work it’s refreshing to have access to a download that shows you how to do some really visual stunts without having to go out of pocket for expensive magician brand “stuff”. If you’re new to IT work then this is a great place to start. If you’ve been doing IT work for a while then you’re going to love Leon’s flourishing with the floating card. Leon takes such a stock effect and really makes it something special. This is so much more than just a standard hover card. This download is a workshop on some very visual and really fun things to do with floating cards using IT. The pocket space required is minimal, having taken up no more room than a simple mint tin, and this is something that is great as an attention getter or as a closing routine too. Since it’s IT, it’s pretty versatile to how you choose to present it. It can be done surrounded, but lighting maybe a concern. You’ll want to check your lighting conditions before you perform. Other than that The Floating Card is a wonderful little download. I highly recommend it. When I give my product scores below I am measuring them on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 Being absolute the worst score possible, and 10 being the absolute best, making a score of five average. The four points that I grade upon is Product Quality, Teaching Quality, Sound & Video Quality and Overall Quality. Product Quality: 7 Great price, and with it being an instant download there is no waiting in the mail for it to arrive. You’ll need to purchase a few other things though before you can start practicing. Teaching Quality: 8 Very easy to learn from. Good energy, and flow. Video & Sound Quality: 4 The video and the sound in this download looks like a student film. Not very high resolution, and the consideration to lighting is nonexistent. The sound levels are inconsistent throughout the video making it distracting at times from the material being presented. Overall Quality: 8 Overall The Floating Card manages to hover away with a pretty high mark. The magic is solid, the moves are highly visual, and the material in here is broad enough to have something to appeal to the novice as well as the veteran. If you’ve never floated a card before, this is a good video to start with. If you have then this is a good video to look at to improve your moves. It’s a win win. Have a product you want reviewed? Just downloaded this yesterday, and not only want to work on the hummer card but I have so many ideas of effects with his hookup. Classic, old idea brought to the 21th century. This is definitely going to be a worker for me. I'm in the process of closing a deal that would have me working over 200 days a year in trade shows fot the next five years. This is something I plan on using.

I watched about 70% of the video last night. Yes- there was some issues with the quality of the video with sound and lighting. But, for me, didn't detract from Leon's teaching. I was still able to understand everything. Using IT has always been a problem for me with everything from setting up to the IT breaking. In this download Leon explains a few different set-ups that I found very helpful! As a previous user mentioned, Leon's set-up is fantastic if you are one that has trouble, he really solved some issues I had setting up the IT. It made me want to break out the IT and start working! But I didn't. That's tonight, lol! Leon's teaching is thorough and to the point. I feel as Draven mentioned above that the content in the download will appeal to the novice as well as the experienced. A lot of moves are taught and explained very well by Leon.
I still have to finish watching the download and will report back once I do but at this point my thoughts are that for $15.00 this is definitely worth it. I have always wanted to do some IT work but always had issues with setting up and the IT breaking. Leon has shed some very positive light on these issues in the download which has "re-lit" the candle for me on using IT. Also, I love Leon's source for the IT he uses. Great idea! My thoughts so far, overall you can see Leon has a lot of experience using IT and the download is full of great information! I am looking forward to finishing the download and re-starting my journey using IT. And as I stated earlier- this is a great price for the amount of information/teaching you get. I believe the HUMMER CARD retails for $10.00 and you get not even a fraction of the information as you get on this download. HIGHLY recommended! Very nice work Leon! RNK

Definitely a lot of good stuff here at a great price point. This is a perfect beginners video for someone who wants to learn the basics and has never fooled with IT before or tried it once and gave up. It takes you step by step through the beginning process of stripping thread and set-ups. It is also a very good video for the intermediate IT performer as it has some different twists on hook-ups and some pretty cool takes on some standard and unique effects he presents. A lot of good stuff here. Not another one trick wonder download (that is so often disappointing). I would recommend it for sure.

I don't have a webinar sales-pitch like introduction as to why you should read my review. And if you get that reference, you'll know that it's possible that I've read some other things which have been posted about this video. But, if you've seen me around, you also know that I have no issue with saying whether or not I like something (sometimes causing me issues when people take offense at the truth or my opinion).
This will be a short review; I hope to follow it up with a more in-depth one once I've actually had more time to practice with it. When it comes to threadwork, I'm like a lot of people with whom I've talked. I got some, played with it, got frustrated not only with it breaking, but with even getting a single thread out of what appeared to be a tangled mess (or at least it was a tangled mess shortly after I started trying to get a single thread out). Since then, I was fortunate enough to come across some (actually a lot of) pre-stripped thread and bought a decent amount (as far as I know, the place I got it from no longer sells it, or I would gladly plug them), so I won't have to go through that part of it. I will still say that the method taught on the DVD seems better than what I remember being taught. But even with having pre-stripped thread, I just didn't go back and try to work with it. So I've had pre-stripped thread that has been sitting around for over a year with the intention that I would get back to it someday. This video has encouraged me to make someday now (a few days ago), and initial results have been very encouraging. Since I am a novice, and have only started to practice, it would be ridiculous for me to try and critique each item, but they all definitely seem doable to me now, after a very short time practicing - something I would have been a LOT more skeptical about before getting this video. So, if you are in the same situation I was in (a frustrated beginner), I encourage you to get this DVD, get out your thread and wax, and start floating some cards (and doing other things). |

If there is enough interest in my work, I am thinking of making a "Floating card trick Vol. 2".
This is one of my pet effects I created a couple years ago. I am thinking about making it a bonus on my next Floating Card Trick download. "Leap Frog" https://youtu.be/SNY2klJ5e3k I have always liked the breathing life into inanimate objects plot and I wanted to do it with something that made sense to me personally. I choose a frog for a couple reasons. Frogs are green so is a dollar bill. It is my understanding that it is believed in china that frogs are lucky and bring wealth. So why not make a frog out of money? When I worked in Las Vegas and did magic for large tour groups this would go over very well for this reason. The modified origami fold is super simple to make on the fly. When you ask people what frogs do, they always say jump or hop. So it makes sense when it does. The animation on this is really strong. In the end they are left with a magical, lucky, souvenir, frog and you are not down any money because you just keep their original bill. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. If you already know how my "Cap and glass" routine works you should be able to understand the basic idea and do this just by watching the video above Thanks once again everyone for all of your support! |

Quick question...does Leon go over the type of IT that he recommends using for the Floating card? If anyone has any suggestions of good pre-stripped IT that would be usable for this effect if would be greatly appreciated. Want to order the download but would like to get some IT to learn with.

Thanks everyone!
I really would like to come out with a volume 2. I have a couple of IT concepts that I did not get a chance to put on the first download. It would also be fun to go into the psychological aspects of how and why I do things. Spectator involvement. How to turn people from hecklers into valuable pieces in your performance. How to build trust and rapport between you and the group you perform for. Creating your own style. I will also be teaching my handlings for classic effects such as the haunted deck, rising card, psychic pinwheel, floating dollar bill and a bunch more |
