My wife -- for obvious reasons. (no really. She can modal tune a 12 string in a minute and tear your heart out. Then she sings and captures your soul)

Personal favorite: Ritchie Blackmore.

Wes Montgomery for jazz, Julian Bream for classical, Freddie King for blues, too many to have a favorite for rock. There are also women guitarists who aren't as well known but deserve recognition like Mimi Fox or Orenthal (Michael Jackson's guitarist, but not sure about spelling here). Lynn

I have several but if I'm only picking one I'll have to go with Chris Duarte. He really should be more well known.

I'm a finger-picker, so... Rev. Gary Davis, John Hurt, Charlie Patton, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Buster B. Jones, Duck Baker... for slide, Blind Willie Johnson, Fred McDowell, Ry Cooder.... I could list many more players who inspired me.

For your enjoyment:
A fantastic performance of "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" by Jeff Beck, live at Ronnie Scott's in 2007. After Jeff's first melodic statement and solo, check out young female bassist Tal Wilkenfeld's bass solo. Jeff is obviously blown away by her playing, seeming to say "I don't know what to play anymore." Then he launches into an amazing response. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC02wGj5gPw |

Check out this version of Rollin and Tumblin featuring Imogen Heap (really!) on vocals. But get the DVD of the whole show; it's great!
