Today’s quarry is Gemstones. Jeff Stone’s collection of 12 rare magic treats he’s excited to share with everyone. Who knows? Maybe this DVD is going to be a diamond in the rough, or it could just turn out to be another lump of coal? Maybe I’ll marvel at the insights mined out of this DVD or perhaps I’ll just be content to sit here on the side line lobbing horrible puns at Jeff’s expense? Either way let’s grab our pick axes and dig into this treasure mine of little gems and see what we can’t pull out.

Jeff’s serves up one hell of a versatile package of powerful magic. This DVD’s got a little bit of something for everyone. You’ve got some card tricks, some prop tricks, and some coin tricks. It’s hard to look through this DVD and not find something to love. He’s got a in the hands triumph that’s super easy to perform, a trick where a borrowed coin winds up inside a signed playing card, a coin in sucker routine, among any others. All of the magic is easy to do and if it requires any props, like the film in Quasi Photo, they are easy to come by. All in all this makes for a fairly good collection of usable magic tricks.

Gemstones is what I’d like to call a “living product” because it comes with access to an online website which supports it with alternate handlings, bonus effects, other ideas, and more. So you don’t just get a DVD with magic tricks when you purchase Gemstones. You also get access to a private password encoded website.

The bonus section has a great routine on it in which you put a dollar bill into a snack cake, and some other ideas for a utility vanish that Jeff calls the S.S. Vanish.

Overall this is a nice little product. The magic on here is obviously pieces that are workers. I enjoyed this DVD and I think you will too.

When I give my product scores below I am measuring them on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 Being absolute the worst score possible, and 10 being the absolute best, making a score of five average. The four points that I grade upon is Product Quality, Teaching Quality, Sound & Video Quality and Overall Quality.

Product Quality: 7
The price is fair, and there really are some gems on this DVD.

Teaching Quality: 7
The magic is easy to learn and Jeff doesn’t waste time with extra fluff or unnecessary expository.

Video & Sound Quality: 8
Sound clear and video are both great.

Overall Quality: 7
Gemstones is named well because there’s some great bits in this DVD. A little something for everyone and that “something” is surely going to be used by you often. This is worth checking out.

Can anyone comment on how practical the signed coin inside card would be for table hopping? Thanks.
