Hello everyone,

I'm going to get my first radio interviews to promote my show in April. My question is, how do you prepare yourself for an interview of this kind. I already know that I'm going to perform a trick but what other preparation are you doing? What are the most frequently ask questions during an interview?

Thanks in advance
Johnny

Banachek's CD "Radio Magic" would give you some excellent preparation for your interview.

Johnny,

Probably is too late, but the most important thing to remember when you are giving an interview in radio or TV is being clear of what you want to say.

Keep this in mind. The host of the show has is own agenda, but you need to focus in yours. If you are there to promote your act, talk about your act and try to end up talking about it no matter what they ask.

Of course you will answer other kind of questions but keep focus. Remember to mention dates, address, exact time, where to buy the tickets, etc. If there is a phone number, repeat it at least twice.

Have all the info written down, just to not forget anything.

Maybe all this sound too obvious, but once you get there, the stress, the studio, mic, etc, could make you nervous and lost focus.

Tha last thing you want is get out of there and then remember that you forgot to tell when is your show or something like that.

If you are going to do a trick, think in something that includes the listeners, not only as volunteers, but do something they can imagine well and relate to.

Try to do a little research about the show. Listen to it some days before just to get use to the style and the dinamic. If you can relate your trick to the host or the show in some way, you will have a bigger impact.

Enjoy!

From over 20 years of doing a daily radio show the most important thing I could tell you is, take control! Do not wait for the host to ask you questions or lead the way. If you come in full blast and take the show where you want to go you will have a much better time. Most, if not all, radio people are lazy. The less they have to do the better they will like you. When not on the air, get the interns or producers in on some tricks. After you leave they will talk you up and that could lead to more bookings, or when you call to come on again, they might remember your name and say, "yeah, that guy was cool. He's the one that...." Do not expect the host to help you out. Some will, but come in blazing and control the room.
If you are not cheating, you are only cheating yourself.

Dutchco is about to put out some new Ebook: DUTCHCO. Get 'em while you can.
