Oh yeah, that's another part of the story I didn't address earlier; the PH. I'm not sure what that guys story is, but he definitely shares a lot of the responsibility for this. Perhaps the lions share. (Pun not necessarily intended, but it's a pretty good one if I do say so myself). The PH is definitely responsible for his hunter and usually they are extremely vigilant because their livelihood depends upon it. But even if the guide violated the law, it shouldn't absolve the hunter.

About the dentist, "Mr. Palmer ... 'enjoys all outdoor activities,' according to the biography page on his now-dark clinic website. 'Anything allowing him to stay active and observe and _photograph_ wildlife is where you will find Dr. Palmer when he not in the office.'" About baiting and luring in Zimbabwe, "Using bait to lure lions is deemed unethical by the Safari Operators Association of Zimbabwe, of which Mr. Bronkhorst is a member. The association has since revoked his licence. 'Ethics are certainly against baiting. Animals are supposed to be given a chance of a fair chase,' Emmanuel Fundira, the association's president, said. 'In fact, it was not a hunt at all. The animal was baited, and that is not how we do it. It is not allowed.'"

It now seems the nice man may win a one-way free ticket to Zimbabwe. I can only say "Bon Voyage'. I assume there'll be plenty of interviews and press involved. He may even receive the Zimbabwean 'Head On A Pole' award.

For some reason, I don't think he'll be extradited to Africa.

I think if he was, it would be a game changer for the game industry, instantly.

Zimbabwe has begun to seek the extradition of an American dentist who killed a lion that was lured out of a national park and shot with a bow and a gun, a Cabinet minister said Friday. "Unfortunately it was too late to apprehend the foreign poacher as he had already absconded to his country of origin," Oppah Muchinguri, Zimbabwe's environment, water and climate minister, told a news conference. "We are appealing to the responsible authorities for his extradition to Zimbabwe so that he be made accountable." "I have already consulted with the authorities within the police force who are responsible for arresting the criminal. We have certain processes we have to follow. Police should take the first step to approach the prosecutor general who will approach the Americans. The processes have already started."

We only signed and extradition treaty with Zimbabwe fairly recently.
But such a treaty exists. |

What a guy!
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnew......ess.html "Cecil the lion: Walter Palmer 'used picture of its corpse' to impress waitress ... 'I was just like, oh, when he showed it to me - I pretended I was interested but I really wasn't. I didn't really know what to say ... He told me he had broken some kind of record for the biggest lion but I wasn't really that interested. He is old enough to be my dad.'" http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2......ed-views "Several of Palmer's patients at his dental office in nearby Bloomington paint a more mixed and mundane picture of the man. '[He] just cleaned my teeth for 10 years,' said Brandon Thomas. 'I don't know anything about his penchant for poaching.' Former patient Lexy McGuire remembered him as 'always money-hungry' and 'My family stopped going to him because he would ask for our money before even working [on our teeth]'" The first patient's comments are curious considering this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-......ing.html Palmer's office is "decorated with mounted animal heads and novelty paw-print flooring." Well, I suppose Brandon may be visually impaired.

It may be against the ethical code of that particular organization, but I haven't seen anything yet that declares it illegal, or expressly forbids it. BTW, could someone please post a link to the actual lion hunting regulations for Zimbabwe? I can't find them anywhere. Do they even have published regulations? |

I heard a guy call into a radio show today from Zimbabwe ... He said the villagers live in terror of lions and many men, women and children are killed trying to protect their herds or flocks. He said they don't "Love" them as nice furry little creatures. I didn't get a link but I do have this one...

I'd prefer to investigate in deeper the news I heard, I simply don't trust the first thing I heard from a guy in a radio show.
Probably the reality is more complex than "villagers live in terror of lions". I totally support hunting for food, which I think it is more ethical than the "death industry" that the intensive breeding etc is, but the trophy hunting is pure cruelty. How can a man kill those incredible animals just for a trophy? That men are sick and cowards. Fight with a lion bare handed if you are a real man!. I just hope that this matter will serve to focus the world's attention on how cruel and unnecessary hunt for trophy is. And start to make something to stop it. I believe that he shall be extradated to Zimbawe, crime has been committed there. Amanda Knox trial has been made in Italy because the crime has been committed in Italy. Recently there was another issue on trophy hunting, British comedian Ricky Gervais brought it to the world's attention http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people......480.html https://www.thedodo.com/ricky-gervais-na......le.it%2F http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/wi......ffe.html |

Mugabe undoubtedly utilises racism for his own ends, but I doubt he himself is a racist.
He seems from his actions to be an equal opportunity killer. |

I like lions. I would hate to see them disappear. They should be protected. Someone who kills one senselessly and illegally should be punished.
And there are far more important things going on in the world -- like PEOPLE being killed -- that nobody gives a d*** about. Funny ... |
