Who has a write up on the basic routine of this effect?

Does anyone know who the first person was to publish this formula? It is usually called "Toxic" for reasons that are clear for someone who knows the formula. I have been trying to find the origins of this but have had no luck

I believe Bob King was the first to have this effect. He showed this to our club in a lecture. I can't give the exact date but it had to be the 80's. I remember that he was upset that someone had "borrowed" it and made it their own and was selling it. He gave the formula away to our club as a way to retaliate. I still have his original instructions

I noticed when doing this that there is a highlight around the "x" button. What I found is that if I type ".0+0" after the "(" that it clears that highlight out. |

Why does Bob King supply a calculator if you don't need a gimmicked one? Does his effect work only with the supplied calculator, or with ANY borrowed scientific calculator?

Wow! This thread should be called Frankenstein as it has been brought back from the dead! If you are looking for a solution with a gimmicked calculator, look no further than the Psi Kalc by Banachek and Gene Protas. This small calculator has been gimmicked to force any number you desire. You can show the calculator to be a normal operating calculator and later when they hit the = button, the force number appears. The memory function has been electronically altered to not display the "M" on the display. It has non-volatile memory meaning you can turn it off and it will still maintain your force number and you can program it in seconds for a repeat performance.
This comes with a book with many routines. This is the premier gimmicked calculator for an electronic add a number. You can find out more at http://www.megahitsmagic.com. Jamie

We sold out of these at Mindvention as well. Gene has gotten some back in stock from Banachek and they are ready to be shipped! I bought one when they first came out and the book has gotten much bigger with ideas and routines from many contributors.

I purchased this from Jamie at MindVention, and am very please with it. The routines are nice, but the possibilities for using this in a routine are really limitless. The calculator is very innocent looking, and for the most part, innocent in function. Very easy to reprogram with a different number on the fly during a routine. I'm looking forward to crafting an effect using this.

Glad you are enjoying it Jonny. When I first saw this, I was not thrilled because I passed this off as just a fancy electronic add a number gadget. This is not just a fancy add a number gadget. It is a utility with a ton of different uses. Here is my most recent use for it...
I ask someone if they know about subliminal messages and the length advertisers go through to use our sub-consunse mind against us. I then tell them I am going to show them how much our minds can absorb in a short amount of time. I then bring out a photo face down and I tell them that when I turn it face up, they are to absorb as much detail as they can in the photo. I then show them the photo for just a couple of seconds. I then turn it back face down. I then ask some questions about how many details they picked up. I then tell them that the mind gathered more information than the brain could process. I then offer a demonstration by asking them to multiply a random four digit number by another random four digit number. I then say you might need this and hand them the calculator. I tell them to quickly enter without thinking a random four digit number and hit the multiply button followed by another four digit number and then to hit the equal button. I ask if the answer means anything to them. I then ask about more details about the photo. I then turn the photo back over and tell them to take a real close look again. While they are looking a second time, I explain that the mind took in more information than the brain can process but the sub-consunse mind did get more information. I then state that the seemingly random number arrived at was not so random after all. At this point, they will usually see that there is a number in the photo and it is the same number that was arrived at using the random numbers. This is a great lead in to any mind reading effect as you have demonstrated that the mind is much more powerful than they may think. This is a VERY different presentation from the standard add a number plots. Use almost any photo with a large number in an inconspicuous location in the photo. Try it and let me know what you think. Hi
If you are looking for a simple mental calculator, you can find it at my web site: http://www.magic4business.co.il/en/galleries.asp?page=197 This is a office depot calculator, you can give it for examination. The predicted number will hold until you erase it.

My problem with this effect is that everyone focuses on the method. Yes, it is a fantastic method. However, if all you are doing is predicting that number...ta-da. You have wasted that power of the method. The adding of the numbers should take you somewhere else. Lior's Moble Opener is fantastic example of don't simply add the numbers...take them somewhere...surprise them. Let them enjoy how clever you are.
To simply say I will influence you...add some numbers. Look I predicted their total!! This presentation is uninspiring and one dimensional. What if you make the presentation meaningful instead of...look how cool I am. Take out a tarot deck and talk with them. Ask them a couple of question. Place a tarot card face down in front of them. "This is my impression but I like to check it with a little numerology." Hand them a calculator. Ask them some basic but interesting numbers. Enter in your birth month. Enter in your birth year. Enter in your address number. Enter in a two digit number that feels right. What is the total. Take the last three digits....see that thick tome over there. Turn to that page. As the person flips through the pages they see that each page has a different tarot card written on each page. The find theirs. It is "The Wheel of Fortune" They look at the card that you placed before them...it matches. They pee their pants. I find this presentation explores more than ...ha ha..I knew what number you would end up with. It gives meaning to the numbers...numerology, it takes the participant on a journey, and the ending not only is surprising but should have meaning for the person, if you have given them a reason why you chose the tarot card.
