For me, it's quite heavy to slug around and too large for my recent roll on suitcase.I was fortunate when I recently saw a mini version from Hocus Pocus. Just can't wait for the arrival. I do the multilated parasol (Abbotts) in every show. I do Marty Hahne’s routine. It’s one of the few things that both kids and adults enjoy. For me it’s gold

Thanks ralph, its a little tight sliding the inner tube. When I watch clips of other magicians, it seems to slide in easily. I have to really grip it and push.

Possible - with a wax candle lightly rub wax around the tip that goes into the tube- oil -etc. would stain the fabric. Now it may be different than mine. At 85, I'm a little computer illiterate, can receive picture - haven't learned how to send pictures - may have to ask my Granddaughter, LOL. If you wish, further correspondence could be by pm -see 'profile'. Ralph

The inside may need polishing with some fine steel wood. Attach some to a dowel and push it through several times.

This is probably the funniest Mutilated Parasol routine I've ever seen by the late Brian Staron. Very well done. https://youtu.be/eg9fmLg2118

This one looks like it's in good condition. Starting bid:US $499. I don't think you'll find one for much less. I recently paid $1100 for two.

As a teenager I attended the 1964 - 65 World's Fair in New York. Interestingly, the only thing I remember about the Fair is going to the magic show at the General Cigar pavilion. The show was produced by Mark Wilson. When I went to the show Mark was not the performer. I think it was the Amazing Randi, but I'm not 100% sure of that. I do remember the thin sawing illusion and the mutilated Parasol tricks. Here is a YouTube clip showing Mark Wilson performing the show. I'm pretty sure this is the exact set of tricks that I saw so long ago.

Micha-el, that's great! Thanks for posting.
There's nothing like the Abbott's Mutilated Parasol. Mine broke and I was lucky enough to find two replacements last year. Now I have a spare, and a broken one for parts. Charlie Miller performs it on Greater Magic Video Library VOL. 18, Charlie Miller VOL. 2. |

Pressure Fan,
Yes, I have that recording of Charlie. He loved the classics. I remember seeing him at a convention in maybe the 80's and when I was going back to my hotel room, he was in the lobby rehearsing a female assistant about how to hand him the parasol and handbag in a way that produced some humor. I think he was getting ready for the evening show. However, on the evening show he only performed the rice bowls. I don't know if the trick was cut because of time or perhaps the rehearsal didn't work out. He was famous for the rice bowls, but he must have thought highly of the parasol trick as well. I believe Charlie's presentation was based on Danny Dew's. I think Danny used the trick quite a bit. The performance of the parasol that I most enjoyed seeing was by Don Lawton, I would assume it's the same one to which Dick Oslund referred. His presentation was humorous and short. I think the line Dick was referring to went something like, "I remember my wedding like it was yesterday ...... and you know what a miserable day yesterday was!" There was a tribute video to Don Lawton that had among many other things a 30 minute (or so) performance by Don at the magic castle. I also saw him in Hartford CT at a MagicWhirl convention back in the 60's. He was very entertaining. |

Fantastic news! The Abbott’s Mutilated Parasol is back in stock!
https://www.abbottmagic.com/Abbotts-Muti......asol.htm I was lucky to find two used Abbott’s Mutilated Parasols at auction last year. I bring mine to shows in an adjustable plastic drafting tube. I’m over the moon happy to see this great trick available again. |
