Harry,
Thanks for the great advice on using the chicken egg bag. I'm going to look for the Benson routine. It sounds like a great ending. I am also very interested in Danny Korem's cup loading technique! I'm always interested in loading methods. Where can I find Mr. Korem's work on this? Thank you for your continued help! Jim

James, Danny Korem’s loading technique can be found in his book “Korem Without Limits” (1985). It is out of print (of course) but can still be found (probably one of the used book guy’s if Denny of Denny and Lee’s doesn’t have a copy laying around). His Chop Cup routine is one of the best (with killer final loads).
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!

I have been toying with the Jack Miller idea and I am using it with a plain paper bag. It has a great potential.
I have a lecture to put together for Stan Kramien's big Konvention, Konclave... whatever he calls it. I think I will do an egg bag workshop.

A LOT of good info on the loop ball is contained in "Slydini's Encores"
A searchable electronic version (PDF) is now available for about twelve bucks. This thing rocks hard. If you have Cellini's material it is an excellent complement to that material. Koz, can't wait for the new DVD! put the thing out already, you are killing us here! Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! G'day Jim
Great discussion. I have been doing a pretty basic Egg Bag routine for the past year incorporating a rubber chicken. The egg came from an egg bag I purchased but the bag did not work well for me (so I made my own after reading a few books including Tarbell) but the egg is spot on and easy to palm. Here in Australia the humour may be different to a lot of other places but this bit has developed over the year. I discover the egg behind the ear of the assistant and suggest that it may be a "head lice" egg and that if any one see's the mother who laid it they should approach it with caution. It works well here. Bob Latta (Troppo Bob) :jump: |

I just love Lynetta Welch's Classic Malini Silk Egg Bag. It's the best bag I've seen and a real pleasure to work with.
Lynetta also sells "The Perfect Egg" that is ideal for the trick. I wouldn't even consider any other egg or bag. You can learn more at: http://www.fabricmanipulation.com |

Here's my update: I got the Ken Brook's booklet that Pete Biro among others worked on. It is a fabulous piece of work. The drawings and the captions and the text are the best I have seen in any magic publication. It's so clear and easy to understand, and the text goes into such detail to finess the handling. A terrific piece of work.
Now, the "Tarbell" bag I bought. After a closer inspection and using it a bit, I have discovered that for my purposes, it's not the best. That is because it's not really a Tarbell bag. The you-know-what isn't in the right location to be a true Tarbell bag, which doesn't work as well with the handling of Tarbell's routine. The bag is beautifully made though, so I spoke with manufacturer and he said he's going to make a custom bag for me and he may add it to his catalogue. Cool guy. We were on the phone together looking at Tarbell volume #2 pages together. Will keep you posted. Jim PS: I'm looking forward to Pete's egg bag seminar!

I did the egg bag bits in my lecture already, but James if you can come by some time I will be happy to work with you.
Personally I think the Malini (Charlie Miller) would be BEST for the street as you have two people hold your wrists and there is a lot of good comedy possible. Note to all: I have had the same blown egg without a break since 1980 (in 1980 Brenda, of Bob Brown and Brenda fame - she is a great juggler - playing around picked up my egg, dropped and broke it). That was in Japan and I had like 15 minutes to find a replacement egg. We were in a hotel, so I ran to a kitchen zipped in and stole an egg and got back to the ballroom in time to do the show!!!! Now I carry a spare I got from stevensmagic, and I carry them in a two-compartment egg carrier used for camping. Posted: Oct 20, 2004 1:42pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mardo's routine, from Routined Magic, Mardo, would also be good for the street, using a Tarbell type bag. Somewhere in my files I have a routine written and used by a top vaudeville comic magician that I need to dig out and study. I have also combined the silk to egg with the egg bag. You show the egg has a hole in it "I cut a hole in the egg to remove the contents, that way if we drop it.. NO MESS." The do egg bag with it. Then I switched for a silk that looked like the egg bag and tucked into the egg, showed hole, did sucker explanation and then broke the egg to finish. The one bit from the vaudeville act I used, as you break egg yolk, etc. into a glass, hold up (applause) walk offstage and return for bow, but walk like a drunk spinning around, etc. and the line is "Success makes me dizzy."

Trevor Lewis' latest DVD has an egg bag routine with a production climax and several gags and tips you may want to check out. His final production is a huge egg. I performed this for awhile by starting with the large egg (an old L'EGGS) which was opened to reveal the egg bag. The large egg was reassembled and pocketed; then at the end of the routine the large egg was produced from the bag -- which was returned to the egg. Full circle. This was actually developed for reasons of pocket and prop management. Trevor also had a variation of this routine on an earlier video, where the final production was a gift for the assisting child. Plays well. Have also used colored plastic take-apart Easter eggs with little gifts inside. BTW, it was seeing Bob White perform his routine with a boy and girl that opened my eyes to the potential of the egg bag.

Gazzo had several people at our lecture very interested in his egg bag routine. He even had some of the older gentlemen who have performed the egg bag for many years asking him about some of his handlings.

The DVD will be coming out on MagicPitch.com sometime in the very near future. It is a great routine that will play fantastic on the street, or anywhere really.

A serious question. How can you tell what kind of egg bag you have? As I said, mine didn't come with credits.
