Good afternoon Ladies & Gents,
for a project that I'm working on with some colleagues we're looking for any hint on effects that have flies or other insects appear from your mouth - or something that is similar in terms of creepiness. I am aware of something along these lines in "Garden of the Strange", but thought you might know more about this. I am aware that this effect may be considered tasteless and that putting flies or insects into your mouths is probably not the most hygienic thing to do - so trust me when I say that our final result will hopefully overcome these issues Any hint is appreciated! Thanks and all the best, T.

This effect will be anything BUT tasteless.

Tasteless? No. It's quite something to sit in the middle of a bunch of bug-eaters, listening to them discuss palatability of various insects.

Docc Hilford had the "Wrath of Renfield" in a very old video on bizarre magic in wich he puts dead flies in different orifices : they all appears in his month.
It is a great, very funny, piece but I doubt it is the thing you are looking for... |

The fly is not frozen and murdered in a certain manner by the spectator so they are convinced that it is in fact dead. Fun little effect that perfect for the Halloween season. It also takes about 15-20 minuets to perform or I should say work so you have time to do other things in your performance as well. I do not think this effect is even on the market anywhere at the moment. I think I took it off the market a while ago. So if anyone wants a copy just email me and for a small donation you can get a copy. Plus it will help me out as I spend those funds on some more tools and lumber. Which is where most of my cash goes since I have not left my workshop in months. just too busy doing waht I love to do. But bugs are good except those the bite you. Those are not so good. |

When Qua-Fiki was working on his "Thought Plucker" comedy mental effect (The Wizards' Journal #23), we discovered some realistic plastic/rubber house flies being sold by the bagful for Halloween that year, and added some "Mr. Miayagi-like" moves with his bamboo tweezers to catch flies and (apparently) eat them while seeking thoughts from the audience. It got great audience reactions and overpowered the original mental effect, so he had to cut it out, but every once in a while, it resurfaces because he still has a lot of the imitation flies left over and it's too funny not to bring it out on family picnics and barbecues.

Just stick them between the cheek and gum like snuff. If you want them out alive don't chew. You'd be surprised how many critters crawl out of the mouth of the Dead.

Friends,
thank you all for your input! Your hints are much appreciated and have helped in giving us a much clearer base to work from. I'll let you know how it went eventually. All the best, T.

There was a TV show called THEM, a hidden camera magic show. One of magicians did this effect. Most of the flies seemed to crawl out of his mouth rather than fly out. But it was still creepy to see them slowly swarm over his face as he opened his mouth.
