Many of Hitchock's films have strong psychoanalytic undertones.

Great interview with Ruben Blades here who is probably the best thing on Fear the Walking Dead.
https://www.yahoo.com/tv/fear-the-walkin......c_trk=ma I wasn't aware of what a renaissance man Ruben is. Besides being a Grammy winning musician he he's also got a law degree from Harvard, ran for the Panamanian presidency in 1994, and acted as Minister of Tourism in Panama from 2004-09. |

I found the series satisfying but not great. I think it could have been so much more. Hopefully they improve upon it next year.
It did meet the test of making me look forward to it each week. |

I don't like the way they are portraying the military.

Various people (WD fans, reviewers, etc.) have pointed out what a miserable lot these survivors are. How many innocents have they been responsible for killing so far? They left the safe zone gates wide open so that zombies can freely enter and eat their former neighbours. They freed thousands of zombies in order that a military base and its soldiers / staff would get slaughtered. And so on. Either the main protagonists are stupid as mud or just plain evil. Yes, they could also be both.
In any case, the writers should have killed all of the protagonists in the season finale and started with a new bunch next season.

Well, this WAS the same military that was planning on killing every person in the LA basin as they pulled out so it wasn't completely without a bit of justice.

The military is being portrayed as flimsy 2D figures to just push the story forward, which is sad because the writing is normally better. If this was really to happen the military would be more concerned about their own family welfare instead of herding civilians. It's not intelligent writing. They seem to have forgotten that the military is made up from the citizenry.

Yea I am not drawn in by this incarnation of the show. It is now officially the week Rick woke up.
The new charecters have to drive it and nobody but the dude who owns the boat seem even remotely interesting. Even the whole "the bite kills you but doesn't infect you" thing was sort of a who cares moment for me. Also it is just tough for me to leap to why it is such a huge problem. I find it hard to believe that after knowing what is happening and the solution that cops and military should not be able to fairly easily solve the problem. You may lose one or two cities, but certainly not the world. With the way they are setting up it seems like their explanation is a bit lacking. I could be wrong. Has happened a lot before. I think I preferred no explanation to a bad one.

I've always thought an oil freighter would be the way to go. Stay docked a decent distance off shore, diesel has a very long shelf life, plenty of fuel for the generators, and the flat surface of the freighter would be ideal for growing food. Yes, you would need to bring in a lot of initial supplies but once you are established you should be able to do well with limited scouting trips for resources.

Yea there are a lot of private island solutions as well.
The original show and I dare say the conic was more about the moral dilemmas and evolution of morality. The whole "we don't kill the living" thing and how these things evolve. Again all of that driven by charecters. Which are the very thing this seems to lack.

It is interesting how they are deviating away from the story in the graphic novel (as far as the original series) and I can't see them killing off certain characters (which die in the graphic novel) due to their popularity.
This series does not generate any empathy and there isn't anyone to root for or against.

Also agree.
Salguod, nice analytical commentary regarding the military. I never looked at that aspect with such a keen eye, but you're spot on. That crew would be mighty splintered when they realized this wasn't just another "ordinary" war.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

And they've killed off some big characters in the tv show. I think things are proceeding apace. I don't want to tip anything to those who may not want to know. I have a friend that buys the graphic novels as soon as they come out. Certain characters have been changed, such as the two young girls were boys in the novel. Different people died at the showdown at the prison as well. I haven't seen the new season premiere, but my wife watched it yesterday and she was not impressed.

Slightly old news, but Negan has his own 12 issue comic miniseries now, titled "Here's Negan".
It tells his backstory back in the day. http://comicbook.com/thewalkingdead/2016......evealed/
