To promote some discussion. Can illusions incorporating a celebrity or a personality assistant be a good or bad thing in general for a performer? Are there any big technical illusions with perceived danger that it would be great to see performed with a celebrity which providing the presentation was pitched right would be a sensational media coup for magic?

Hans Klok had in Las Vegas Pamela Anderson in his show. That gave to both much publicity.
Paul Daniels had Shirley Bassey in his show and everybody liked that.
Doug Henning had many different VIP's in his show and that also gave him much publicity!

The answer is, "YES!"

A celebrity is just like any audience. Get them to assist you on a Wakeling Sawing. Get them to appear from a Crystal Casket or Smoke Chamber. Get them to do a teleportation illusion of your choice. It is always good publicity to have a famous person in your show/stunt.

Do you or have you performed any large scale illusions before?

Putting VIP's into bases (unless you are very lucky) is a a big no! so crystal casket, smoke chamber etc are not suitable at all. Zlwin I don't agree with your suggestions from a practical point of view
1: You rarely get any decent rehearsal time with a VIP and sometimes get thrown a stand in from their 'people' with the VIP getting the feed back from them!
2: Hair, Make up and clothes don't look good being crumpled into a tight space, especially with glamorous ladies who have never been squashed into a small space before.
3: Body Sizes are so variable

Much more efficient to use something more comfortable with the VIP standing ready to appear with nothing more to do than smile and greet the audience.

By all means use VIP assistants when possible. It isn't always possible. Be realistic. Remember that VIPs are people too. Some are afraid of magic, being on stage, close spaces an/or SHARING attention. Others have very real physical restrictions.

With that said, VIPs can get attention you can't! There are photos and conversations that will never include you otherwise. Magic is about visibility. It is certainly part of the show.

I think we should remember that the poster said Celebrity/Personality and quite frankly a lot of these guys have egos the size of planets and so even if they agree to perform magic with you, you had better be 100% certain they will not make you look like a jerk to get a cheap laugh. Comedians are particularly prone to this and I struggle to find one example that I have seen where a comedian shows professional courtesy to a guest magician, as far as they are concerned it's all me, me, me. One leading UK comedian who is hugely successful pulled open the front curtain on stage while the illusionists behind it were loading the girl into a false base...the comedian and audience thought it was hugely funny. Being linked to a 'Name' can be a great publicity opportunity, just make sure you are boosting your career not digging your grave.

I think Zlwin means having them assist with the production and not get in the hiding space

I'm not sure how else to interpret this statement he wrote "Get them to appear from a Crystal Casket or Smoke Chamber"

I agree with Natmagic...for VIP's bases are a no-no for so many different reasons. My own instincts would be to keep it simple. Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic has an upright production cabinet in the illusion section at the back, perfect for what you need.

Indeed, Mark did that trick on TV with celebrities in that box on a number of occasions. Sometimes it went well, sometimes not as well.

I got 'dragged in' as a consultant, to help my late friend, Dick Snavely, produce Miss North Carolina at the State Fair.

"We" had to work on a platform with NO WINGs, and a backdrop that offered no place to "hide".

We did it, and, it played well. I'm available. I charge a consultant's fee.

Incorporating a celebrity in your show can definitely build traction and attention to your brand. Just like what Bob said " VIPs can get attention you can't! ".
