"A Texas man was wounded after he fired a gun at an armadillo in his yard and the bullet ricocheted back to hit him in his face, the county sheriff said Friday.

Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe said the man, who was not identified, went outside his home in Marietta, Texas, at around 3 a.m. local time Thursday morning. He spotted the armadillo on his property and opened fire."

"Lee County Sheriff's deputies tell WALB-TV that 54-year-old Larry McElroy fired his 9 mm pistol at the armadillo Sunday night.

Deputies say the bullet killed the armadillo, but bounced off the animal, hit a fence, traveled through the back door of the mother-in-law's mobile home and the recliner in which she was sitting, striking her in the back." Smile

I want to make a mother-in-law joke here but I know it's inappropriate.

I'd suggest The Armadillo God was driving the Karma Bus.

Back when the incident first hit the press, someone referred to the critter as a Karmadillo.
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

The man had to be airlifted. The armadillo seems to have wandered off.

Why did he fire his gun at the armadillo in the first place?

Baboon teams up with Breakfast Television on a reveal story featuring Zoo director Smile :

"The microphone picked up the words “f***ing c***s*****”. Mr. Hackenberger leads the monkey back to horse, then the monkey hops back up and continues the trick."

That's the same kind of bullet that killed Kennedy.

I get the inpression that there were two separate armidillo shootings- one in which the armadillo was killed but the bullet ricocheted back at the shooter's face, and one it which the bullet bounced off the armadillo, went all over the place and ended up in the back of the shooter's mother-in-law as the unharmed armadillo wandered away.

Just to add to the confusion, regarding the the first shooting, it was later reported that the bullet did NOT ricochet off the armadillo and that the fate of the creature is unknown.

Yes, Bob, there were two separate armadillo shootings, sorry if that was unclear from the OP.

It was pretty clear.

Seems like a lot more armadillo related violence than I would have suspected.

There's been some discussion as to whether an armadillo shell would deflect the ammunition in question, if in fact an armadillo was hit in the first place. Some have said, yes, indeed, could happen. Could be, too, the shooter, in fact, hit a rock or some such instead, but I think that goes without saying. Smile

"Texas man shoots armadillo, bullet ricochets back into his face Animal's status unknown because authorities were unable to find it"

The first shooting, but second article linked to, involving the mother-in-law, was the one in which an armadillo was killed. Which seemed to give credence to a ricochet/deflection travelling to the mother-in-law, see?

It is funnier if he hit the armadillo. It really is.

Then the animal getting away sort of has that got what ya deserved thing going for it as well.

Arthur and Gregor;

Because he had a gun and there was an armadillo there.

Not to turn this to a gun debate, but not EVERYONE who owns a gun makes clearly rational choices.
