With all this being said, I personally favor performing a visual shuttle pass (one of the most convincing illusions I have ever seen) out of a black opaque box that does not appear to be a magician's prop. A box that resembles a jeweler's box and something layman can identify with. A box that is the perfect weight and size that takes up minimal pocket space that is ideal for strolling. A box that contains a real 3 dimensional gaff that is customizable in seconds, resets instantly and is examinable. This is a close-up worker's dream and a steal at the retail price. I will be performing with this little gem for many years to come as it will remain a permanent part of my professional performing repertoire.

I have read many of the posts here. I'm not having the same luck with the ECO box I purchased.
I worked with it for days. The gimmick sits up too high no matter how I crease it or try to adjust it. When I do get it to stay down as soon as I pull the box from my pocket and open it the problem stsrts again. I have gone back to my wooden Kennedy box. It has worked each and every time for 10 years or more. I have messaged Dan about the problem. He did get back to me a month ago but in the last two weeks he won't respond to messages. Has anyone else here had the same problems with the ECO box? |

Yes, the quality seems to be very inconsistent.

My ECO Box simply doesn't work properly. I worked with it for a while but went back to
my Kennedy Box which has worked each and every time for 15 years. The ECO Box gimmick sits up high no matter what you do. I tried creasing it as instructed but as soon as I take it out of my pocket to perform it the gimmick is again up too high and is exposed as soon as you open the box. I'm extremely dissapointed in it and now regret buying it. |

When I'm going to use mine, I have to open it up and work it at least 15 to 20 times before it will work at all. Not exactly what I expected.

Well, After learning of my bad experience with the Eco Box Dan offered to personally make one for me.
I received it in the mail and I'm here to report that is now works as it was designed to. Now THAT'S customer service !!! I applaud you Dan. This type of service is almost unheard of. Thank you. I appreciate all your help. Dave |

ECO BOX is a wrongly designed item. I am just wondering how can this item could be released to sell.

I have absolutely no idea what anyone is talking about. I am still performing with a prototype of inferior quality that Dan sent me last summer and have never had any problems with it. I even wore out the felt and refelted the box and it is still going strong. I don't understand how any of these could be "defective" as there is really nothing that can possibly go wrong with any of these in my professional opinion. At risk of offending, it sounds more like a performer issue to me than a quality issue. It took me a little patience, time and effort to learn the characteristics of the box but that is true with anything new. Since then, I have been starting new religions with this marvelous little gem with no plans of quitting any time soon. For live performance footage search YouTube for Richard Mendez or friend me on Facebook.

I mean if that one didn't work, then why would he bother even sending it to you, right? It's certainly a lot easier to get one or a few to work properly than it is to crank out hundreds and have them all work perfectly. You really can't understand what could possibly go wrong in that scenario? Fact is, my Eco-Box didn't work reliably either. I own The Box (Mark Southworth's original) as well Dan's Miracle Prediction Chest so I'm pretty well-versed with the concept. But not a big deal, I just returned it to Penguin. They're great about returns. Don't know why all the purchasers of bad units are just tossing them in their drawer like it's 1985? Products are supposed to work properly. If yours has an issue then contact Dan and he'll no doubt make it right. I'm not here to bad mouth Dan or his company. He has FANTASTIC customer service and I am sure that he was just going through some "growing pains" with his company with the release of Eco-Box. And I do LOVE his Miracle Prediction Chest very much. But actually, come to think of it, I had to do a fair amount of tinkering to get the Miracle Prediction Chest to work consistently too, but it was worth it. But it's not fair for you to question all the recipients of bad units of this product and imply that it is user error. If you don't understand what can possibly go wrong with these units then you've obviously never had a bad one. I'm sure Dan could tell you some stories of things that could possibly go wrong with them. Better yet, I'd like to see Dan come on here and state that he found no problems with any of the returned boxes and it was all user error if that is indeed the case. Bottom line is that Dan is a great creator and manufacturer with tremendous customer service along with no hype demos and I hope his company thrives so he can release many more new and wonderful things. But it seems like maybe there were quite a few Eco-Boxes where QC got overlooked and folks had a legitimate complaint, but Dan took care of them. At least those that he was aware of. Trouble is, for every one he heard about there were no doubt others that he didn't. But anyway, don't mean to rant guess I'm just not in the mood tonight to take the blame for a defective product. Hey, I've been sick for a week and I'm cranky. |

I definitely agree, not only does Dan offer the best available service in this galaxy, but he's also incredibly stubborn!
I bought my Eco box from England as I live in Brussels, Begium makes sense -; as many of us I received a box that wasn't working properly; I pm'd Dan, who immediately proposed to send me a new one at no charge, what he did. But it got lost somewhere along the way. Dan sent a second one, still free of charge: lost as well! The third one finally arrived this morning, and I sware to treasure it as it must be the most expensive box in this part of the world (And around)!!! Tnaks buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are very welcome Gilles.
Regarding the boxes. There were a few that had issues but it was a small percentage, and unfortunately those were the ones people usually hear about. It was also not a QC issue and if it were I'd be honest about that too. My son and I hand made all..each and every one of the boxes and I double tested them, not one left the door not working properly. What actually happened to a small percentage of boxes was that we built them in our workshop in 100 plus degree heat in the middle of summer. The vinyl backed velvet was soft and pliable and I had no reason to suspect that would change. During shipping the vinyl cooled and thusly contracted pulling too tightly causing the flap to ride too high out of alignment. The truth is that the fix is about 20 seconds if you understand the gimmick as well as I do. Simply remove the velvet and readjust the flap, but I didn't believe it should be the responsibility of the purchaser to mess with it. Consequently I replaced them at my expense. What people probably don't realize is that creators make only a fraction of the amount of the sales price and absorb all the manufacturing and packaging costs. By the time all was said and done we barely broke even on the release and chalked it up to a learning experience. Unforseen things can always happen, but I know we did our best to rectify them and I believe we went way beyond what a lot of folks would have for an item that was priced far below what most would have charged for something similar. We won't be repeating those oversights and will plan and test for temperature changes in the future because another one like that would likely put us financially out of business. We could jack up our prices to compensate but we didn't get in this to gouge customers but rather treat them fairly and price our releases fairly as well. I promise the materials used to make our box were as costly as others on the market and likely even more costly than the plastic ones. Our other releases have and will continue to perform well and if something should go wrong I would hope people know we are a company of integrity. In the end that's the best I can do.
