I use a PC with Firefox as my internet "gate" and Google as my search engine. I'm happy with them, so I'm not looking to change.
However, nowadays, when I open a second search window, I get Bing. I used to get Google, but somehow Bing got into the picture. I've looked thru the settings on Firefox and on my computer, I've tried CCleaner, and I've done everything else I can think of, but Bing keeps hanging in there. I don't want it, mostly because I didn't ask for it and it just wormed its way in. Any ideas about how I can get rid of it?

In the search bar, there is a small arrow to the right of the search icon (magnifying glass)
Click the arrow and then select “Manage Search Engines” Select the search provider you prefer. Click on 'Set as Default' button.

George, you may have had your browser hijacked. If Steven's advice doesn't work that might be what happened. You should be a able to Google search an answer. I had the same problem happen to me on my browser after I tried downloading some free dvd ripping software.
I tried everything I could on my own to change the setting back and that including changing the setting in my browser. I'm not sure if Bing was the search engine that came up on mine as a home page but the search results I think came through Bing. Hopefully, Steven's suggestion ends your problem but if not I hope my post is helpful. My home page works fine now. Let us know if it gets fixed.

Salguod, I was trying to download handbrake at the time which is freeware and had no paid version. I was trying to rip some dvds that I bought in order to watch then on my tablet. I personally don't pirate things online.

It all depends on the original content. Public Domain or free to use media - no problem. Copyrighted licensed media - problem.

Thanks.
Your Karma comment was not so nuanced. |

I haven't downloaded any movies, music, free programs, apps, games, or any of that stuff. That's my work computer at home, so I pretty much have all the software on it that I need. I do a lot of design-related research on Google and Wikimedia, and look up vendors and prices all the time, but that's pretty much it. That's why I find it so annoying that something wormed its way in -- I can't think of anything I did to cause it. As to your other thread, "Are you a thief?" -- I'm responding to it over there.

My comment was in response to terry. I think your problem is the default issue already mentioned.

Thanks for asking. Nope, I haven't had a chance to do anything about it. Maybe this weekend I can come up for air and look into it.
