Does anyone use personal checks anymore? I wrote one today, and it reminded me how few I write anymore. Maybe two a month. What about you?

Precious few.
Tops, probably 3 - 4 per month. |

We write them all the time, because we're afraid of online banking.

I write some, but not all that many. Probably 4-6 per month.

I haven't written a check since 2010, and that was to the IRS. Now that I can do that online as well I haven't used them. I pay everything online and use Paypal and a remittance service when I need to see money.

I do (use personal checks). No online banking or bill paying for me. No Paypal account either. At the gas station I always go inside and pay cash. If and when I order something online, I always send a check. And although I do have a couple credit cards, I rarely use them when I'm out shopping. This may not seem practical to some, but I feel a whole lot more secure.

My wife and I write only a few each month. I only carry small amounts of cash on me and most of our transactions are through online banking (it's really not all that bad Arthur ) and plastic.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

I honestly can't remember the last time I wrote a check. I use on-line banking almost daily and only go to the bank when I have to deposit checks received.

If it works for you there isn't anything wrong with doing it. It's not an option for me anymore and I like that I can send my Dad money each month via Paypal, log into his account, and then deposit the money in his bank without him having anything to do. To each their own...

My philosophy is to leave as small an electronic transaction footprint as possible. I also always pay cash at the grocery store, even though I see most people using the card swipey thingy. And when they put one of those movie Red Boxes in there a few years ago, I refused to use that too. It's all about minimizing risk. Call me "mini-me". Ron

Oh, I had my debit card jacked once but I saw the purchases on my bank account (via electronically) and contacted the bank. They froze the card, refunded me the charges, and mailed out a new card which I got 4 days later. As long as you are not complacent then the risk is minimal. This is why I hate smart phones. It provides instant access if you don't remember to lock your device, or are too lazy to manually type the passwords each time.
If you are using Firefox as your browser and use the remember the password option for sites, that information is visible under a security setting; so be careful about letting other people borrow your computer. There is an option to set a master password which I do use, though you have to enter the master password when you need access to the password vault.

Over the last few years, the only checks I can recall writing are to one of my investment accounts, and to Harry Lorayne for a book or two.
