I recall an exercise from 4th grade. Correctly punctuate this line of words grammatically.

I remember once when I was a kid seeing that someone had scrawled, "You rot bad," in chalk on the street.
I couldn't pass it by. I borrowed some chalk and corrected it to, "You rot badly." I was a little odd as a child. |

One thing that a lot of performers forget is that conversational language really has different rules and conventions than the written word. The failure to understand this is the reason why so many scripts sound pompous, stilted or memorized.

many people who read stories, articles, poems, etc out loud break the text into lines on the page so that a rhythm can be created and sustained -- also to force breathing and to slow down.
