If you find all the parts maybe you can put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

William;

If all the king's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again

What possible chance would I have to put Humpty Dumpty together again?

I posses no supernatural powers as a magician; I perform magic for entertainment purposes only

I just came into one of Harry Leat's Humpty Dumpty as well - with no instructions. If you are still interested in more information about the effect, there is a listing - with description - in the 29 October 2011 Potter & Potter catalogue. You cash see it on line at:
http://www.potterauctions.com/pdf/Catalog_012_WEB.pdf
It's at the top of page 21.

I hope this helps.

Thanks CNY. Now, what the heck do I do with it?

Add it to your private museum of "Magical Oddities?" You - or your club - could sponsor a traveling display to promote "Magic and Magicians?"
I've thought of doing this from time to time. There are muggles who are interested in seeing strange and exotic things used by Magicians - even (especially) if they are "old fashioned" and out of date. Having your name and Website included could help give you credibility.

It is a silk dyeing routine. "Humpty" is the dye tube that lets you do the clean up on the end. I think it could be done today if enough kids still know the nursery rhyme.

Judging from the other props I got with it, it probably comes from Abbott.

The picture and description in the Potter & Potter catalogue I referenced earlier match what I have. "Humpty Dumpty" as listed in Abbots Catalogue No 21 is entirely different.
"EFFECT: Magician displays a handsome figure of Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall alongside a handsome house. He recites .... As the performer says 'Fall", Humpty Dumpty visibly breaks into pieces."
This effect is credited to Gil Leaney. Clearly a totally different trick, sharing the same title.

I have a complete Prop from Albion Magic called Humpty Dumpty. The prop is good quality and very well made. You can put you own spin on it. However, it is a self-contained unit with a nice picture of Humpty's house. I have not performed it in years but have a couple of toddler shows coming up. So I will dust it off and give it a whirl. If entertaining young children, I highly recommend it! Cheers!
