Hi,
I do not know how well known Eric Sharp is out there in the US and other countries. But any of his writings particarly "Specialised Childrens Entertainment" and "Specialised Routines For Children" are esential reading for any childrens entertainer. Eric has recently retired and is working on a new book (he told me at Blackpool in February). I am looking forward to that myself. Eric taught me Punch and Judy and showed me many routines from his books. He also had something of an influence on Quentin Reynolds performance of childrens magic. I am sure if Quentin reads this he will back up my recommendations of these books. Phillip |

P.B.
I have heard good things about the Sharp books. Can you give us a brief review? More important, where the heck can I find them? I have tried google searching Sharp's name, bookfinder.com,H&R Magic books, Hank Lee's and Denny & Lees with no luck. Thanks. |

Hi,
I will try and do a review as soon as I have time. though my grammar skills are not what they should be. Eric sells his items himself rather than through dealers his contact details are - Eric Sharp Entertainments ltd Abracadabra Pontyclun Mid-glam south wales UK Telephone uk+01443 225443 Of the two books I mentioned above I prefer "Specialised childrens entertainment" as it contains a lot of his own original material as well as routines for commercial props. the book "Specialised routines for children" is also Exellent but has only routines for commercial items. Thanks Phillip! By the way, which one has the rabbit in the Hat puppet routine that Quentin Renyolds referred to in one of his posts?
Cheers! |

I wasn't referring to a Rabbit In Hat puppet routine but Eric's "Rabbit In Hat" routine which is ten minutes of business with a live rabbit. It is pure gold and is fully described in the Specialised Children's Entertainment book.

I did an Internet search on "Eric Sharp" and the book you mentioned "Specialised Children's Entertainment" and could find nothing. I am really interested in that routine you mentioned above. Any help locating that book would be greatly appreicated, outside of calling another country.

That is interesting,
I purchased a copy of "Specialized Children's Entertainment" a couple years ago from Magic Books by Post, some nice ideas indeed. I have been looking for "Specialized Routines for Children" and have now got my lead - Thanks Does Eric Sharp not have an e-mail address or web site? Shaun |

Since your close to him and talk to him maybe you can convince him to market his stuff via Internet. I too am interested in his rabbit routine and his books.

HI,
Eric is an elderly man now and I do not think that he is really likely to market on the net. Eric is not an easy man to convince of things and has very strong opinions. I only see Eric about 4 times a year. I think Quenton has a bit of influence with Eric I would be interested to see what he thinks? I will ask him when I see him. But that is not likely to be until Blackpool in February. Phillip |

Hello there, I 've just joined up as a member. I saw your conversations on Eric Sharp.
I got to know Eric way back in 1970. I saw an add in the magazine and wrote to him about buying his materials. I was a busy peformer at that time and thought I knew everything there is to know about entertaining children. Well, I got busier after I started to do some of Eric's routines in my show. I was doing 12 shows on a weekend, it got very crazy. I've just about everything that he sold. Most of the materials are in my shows. I do change some to suite my style. If you would like to know anything about the tricks Eric sells just ask I've got most of them, not all but most. He even has my testimonial on page eight of his last book "More Briliant Specialized Tricks and Routines" Richard Lyn |

Back in the 1970s I used to do 30 minutes shows. Now I'm doing 40 minutes.
Do you buy from Eric Sharp? If you do I would like to corespond with you by email. I have a good friend from England, he lives in Toronto "Marl Lewis". He's an excellent children's entertainer. He visits his family in London 3 to 4 times a year. Richard. |

I've got the first 2. I have to agree, there are some real gems in there. I was actually laughing out loud reading some of them. I don't do P&J but the milk & baby routine was absolutely priceless.

Hi Gang
Eric Sharp and I belong to the same magic club, the Cotswold Magical Society, in Gloucester, UK. So, I see Eric about twice a month. I'll next be seeing him at the David Ginn Lecture on Wed Oct 13. Eric and I have lots of chin-wags and exchanges of ideas. He and his wife, Muriel, are really nice people; now in their 80s and "retired!" If anyone here on The Magic Café wants to get a personal message, question or 'order' through to him then by all means feel free to PM me or send direct message to me at my email address jbreeds@onetel.com I'll hardprint and hand over your messages to Eric next Oct 13. No doubt Eric will then find a way of contacting you if you give me your email address in the body of your text. Cheers John Breeds |

I have an extensive collection of books on children's magic, which includes all of Frances Marshall's "Kid stuff", works of David Ginn and Patrick Smith, etc., and now just about all of Eric's books. I am amazed and delighted with his creativity and humor. At first glance it may look like the value of his book Specialized Children's Entertainment is historical only, because of the unique props, but a close reading will reveal gems that even Americans can incorporate in their acts. In his book routines He has a routine for Dippy Duck (card duck) that has helped me improve my routine. I have not had time to assimilate all of the material in his books, even so I cannot recommend them highly enough. A Gold Mine.

I emailed Eric a while ago and he hasn't gotten back to me. I like the sound of ten minutes with a live rabbit I now have two, that's twenty minutes of fun! lol.

I have been in contact with Eric Sharp and have informed him of these posts. He has attempted to login on site, but experienced problems in doing so.
