Last year Uri Geller sold out the Genii convention here in Orlando......This year was very good, but no where near the numbers as when Geller was present. I'm glad Uri is such a great draw and I wish they'd bring him back again next year. Many said the convention would sell out without Geller and I disagreed. Now we know the Genii Convention needs a strong Mentalist to reach the sell out they deserve!
I hope they bring back Uri Geller ...... Everyone seemed to really like the guy!

What on earth was the point of this thread?
If you want the genii convention to have Geller contact them. Stop trying to create controversy slim, grow up for god sake |

Not quite sure what you are getting at? What controversy are you referring to? The fact that he sold out last years convention? Is that what you are upset and name calling about?
I hope they bring back Uri Geller next year. Everyone seemed to really like him and I'd love to have him bring his fabulous stories to Orlando once again. I'm indebted to him for his contribution to the art and my fun times in California. Because of Uri I got to meet some of the greatest minds in Mentalism! People are beginning to see the real power of Uri Geller!

The Genii Convention was first held in 2012, which is when Uri Geller appeared.
That convention was sold out. The Genii Convention was next held in 2015. It was also sold out. As anyone who was in the showroom could tell you, there was NO space left. People were standing on the sides! We didn't need Uri to sell out. The next convention in 2017 will also probably sell out! |

If more people attended a "sell out" in 2015 I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong ... So what were the numbers?

Slim, the onus is on YOU to prove that the figures were more when Uri attended...and that's a slim king FACT!

Yes ... I want to see the figures. It is my belief that Uri had many more people at the convention strictly by visual observation and the testimony of virtually everyone who attended. These are facts. I have not found one single person who said there were more people at the second event. Analysis of these statements gives the firm impression that there were NOT more people there in 2015. I even spoke with two former presidents of local magic groups at lunch last week and they verified my position. They attended both. At no time did I see ticket sales suspended, so I'd like to see the numbers. If they can provide evidence that overrules the testimony of everyone I've spoken to, then please do it and I'll change my mind and apologize for any inconvenience concerning future sales or whatever they see fit.

So you are asking for proof on this subject, but happily take the word of a mum and son in a one off video?
Highly contradictory...

Had I been able to go, I would have gone expressly because of Uri.
Personally, I think he would have created an interest in people outside the usual conventioneers. But Richard has said both conventions were sold out. This means there is/was a cap on the number of attendees. So if the cap is the same, there were the same number of attendees. And of the cap were different, it still makes no difference as the maxiumum number attended both events. Tony |

So is it possible to move the goal posts and say that "800" was a sell out in the Uri Geller convention but only "600"Â is considered a sell out at the second one? Is that the logic here? I'm a little confused. If they were still selling tickets how could it be a "SELL OUT"? I have no problem with Genii and I'd love them to have a convention here every year... but did the definition of a "sell out" change somewhere along the line?

Most of our events take place in one ballroom. The number of people we can accommodate is based on the number of chairs we can fit in the room. We had about 125 fewer chairs in the room at the 2015 convention due to various factors.
I don't know what your problem is, Slim, but you're welcome to come back in 2017 and spend your time counting the chairs if you like. That seems to be an obsession with of yours. |

We are talking about Uri Gellers ability to fill those 125 chairs. So the goalposts are different as I've suggested. It's much easier to fill 250 chairs rather than 375. I'm happy the IBM is doing so well. I've contributed to it over the years. I'm happy GENII has convention here.... However, downplaying Uri Gellers ability to sell out a convention doesn't seem fair to him or those who read the things you write.

The Genii convention was perhaps the finest magic event I've ever attended. The line up was amazing and Uri Geller was simply a phenom. In addition to this he spent a countless amount of time with the people of the convention rather than just attend the events with other "VIPs". I have mixed feelings about Uri's legacy but hearing him talk and meeting him was very memorable. The man is a magic/mentalism legend and is a true showman in every sense of the word.
My congratulations to Richard and the entire Genii convention team for an amazing event. jeff

As an outsider, the points appear to be (in no particular order):
The convention in 2011 had more attendees than the one in 2015. The figures suggested are that there were 125 more in 2011. Both conventions were sell outs. Uri Geller was at the 2011 convention. Without evidence, it's not possible to say exactly what caused the increased numbers in 2011. It may well have been Uri Geller. It may have been other lecturers. It may simply have been that more tickets were available. All of those and many more are real possibilities. So anyone is entitled to their opinion that it was Uri that caused the increase, just the same as anyone is entitled to their opinion that it wasn't Uri. No one can be right or wrong, as without much more research and evidence all we have are opinions. In which case I genuinely don't understand some of the posts. The only response possible is yes, it could have been down to Uri. Chillax. |

I'm a very logical person, which is why I'm sometimes puzzled by some of the posts on here.
